F1 » JYS: Vettel no F1 great


Sir Jackie Stewart believes that Sebastian Vettel needs to prove himself away from Adrian Newey-designed cars before he can be called an F1 'great', but suggests the German would be mad to go to Ferrari just now....

Does that mean Schumacher's titles mean nothing as his cars were designed by Rory Byrne? How about Hakkinen's titles too? Jackie forgets F1 is a lot different now, its more aero based and downforce orientated.

So its all down to the car right? and Sebastian is just an average driver? So why has Mark who is also in a redbull, not had similar results over the last three years? Get over it vettel haters, the guys a legend and I hope he wins the title this year. And goes on to Ferrari in 2014 and becomes the new Schumacher.

That means if Hamilton or Alonso had been in the RBR instead of Vettel they'd have won 2010, 2011 and most likely 2012. Other drivers wouldn't though..."

No, cause no other drivers have, say, matched or beaten Hamilton in the same car over a season have they?

Oh Common how come the name of Jenson Button is not mentioned he did drive a very fast car that boeing 747 engines with a double diffusers and he also drove the same Benatton Alonso drove!

SJS is just wrong and showing his age. His own titles were won with superior cars - leading to victories where he lapped the entire grid by 2 laps at times, that is not just great driving, that requires a superior car. In the real world, when grids are separated by a few tenths, in cars that last whole races without blowing up, winning championships requires a top level driver in a superior car, performing consistently weekend after weekend, over an entire season. To denigrate a driver for having the bad taste of driving for a good team is just the ramblings of an old fart of questionable relevance.
