F1 » JYS: Vettel no F1 great

Sir Jackie Stewart believes that Sebastian Vettel needs to prove himself away from Adrian Newey-designed cars before he can be called an F1 'great', but suggests the German would be mad to go to Ferrari just now....

Vettel became an F1 driver at age 19. That is no mean feat. The holders of the records for youngest race wins, podiums and championships were first Alonso, then Lewis.
Vettels Toro Rosso years were marked with mistakes, but he was still a child by many peoples reckoning. In fact, in that period, far more fireworks were provided by Takuma Sato.
Vettel might not have the fibbesse of Lewis and Alonso, but, Red Bull or not, he is fast. If the Red Bull flatters his record, no one (except hardcore F1 followers) will know or remember.

Vettel great, the best, or Superman (driver). I have no yard
stick, I have not standard measure..
What I see is a driver winning races, sometimes with out
any challenge... 3x WDC is in the cards. Top Dog that he is.

The top three drivers in the field are Vettel, Hamilton, and Alonso in no specific order. They all have their strentghs and weaknesses.

Alonso is probably the strongest racer of the three and seems to be able to maximize his results. Remember the Ferrari was not at the level it is now at the beginning of the season.

Hamilton and Vettel are very equal in terms on qualifying pure speed. Hamilton's agreesiveness is more detrimental to him as it gets him more DNF's than results. Vettel is not as aggressive as Hamilton, but like Alonso he maximizes the RBR. Webber shoots himself in the foot every race, because his starts off the line are not good enough and ruins his chance to maximize a result.

Vettel is clearly gifted as a driver and if people don't call him a legend now he will be when he retires.

People tend to forget that Red bull has also the BEST pit stop crew (how many times did they screw up in the last 4 years when it comes to Vettel? they are ALWAYS mega-fast.)

Furthermore- the best strategists and decision makers- how many times we have seen Mclaren, Ferrari taking some terrible calls? Very rare with Vettel's RB.

Nevertheless, Vettel is an amazing driver.

Hamilton is not at Vettel's level, come on... dreamy fans

Alonso is the only one who can compete with Vettel for the top spot

after them I will put Raikkonen ahead of Hamilton

So in Tom's words, it's a winning combination. A hungry young F1 team looking to make it's mark on the history books, Vettel's natural speed and hunger for F1 records, the mistake-free machine-like pit crew, Adrian Newey's superfast technical creations and the strategy calls of the pit wall.

A tough combo to beat, even for Ferrari and Mac.
