sunny. if what ross is saying, that lulu approached merc in december last year, then that shows that there was an intention to move. and this was a long time before macca would have begun any contract negotiations. to me, that is jumping ship! lulu and dennis have both admitted that their relationship had totally broken down.

however, i wonder if bernie had a hand in any of all this? bernie saw lulu as the saviour of f1, for a year or two, until seb burst on the scene. this added a new twist to the formula. now that seb was dominating, another new twist is required, and this is it.

Richard,if I have to choose a story that's closer to the truth between your story and the tooth fairy story

I would be leaning on towards the tooth fairy story

I agree with Sunny that Lewis was pushed rather than that he jumped. The talking to other teams was probably meant as a bargaining tool. After the tweeting incident it is hard to believe that McLaren would have kept him even at a reduced fee. If McLaren had been serious about keeping him they would not have had Perez already signed the same day that Lewis announced that he was leaving. Clearly the timing of the Perez announcement showed that McLaren had already made their decision.

pushed or jumped, the result is the same.

mark. yes, perez admitted that he had talks with macca a month before lulu announced he was leaving. yet a week before lulu signed with merc, whitmarsh said that there was NO plan b!

throw in the fact that schumi was supposedly to re-sign, (yet brawn knew for months that lulu was likely to sign) there were obviously others involved in the whole musical chairs scenario, that is why i think that bernie may have had a hand in it.

Evening gentlemen and RGB :p

I tend to agree that Lulu was pushed, he must have known that his coat was on a shakey nail at McLaren, he tried RBR and Ferrari and was told to sod off, Merc were his last hope of a drive next year, McLaren made it clear from the start that they weren't going to give into his demands.
Either way it's a good bit of business for McLaren, off load the liability and sign a young talent that MAY live up to expectations this time.
God knows whats in it for Merc other than embarrassment, hay ho I don't really like them as a team anyway, next few years should be quite funny.
