Perez is best option for McLaren because Perez will bring bad of gold with him.
That what Martin Whitewash wanted. Current McLaren sponsor will be gone in 2014 and Mclaren team needs sponsor. Martin Whitewash knows how much McLaren can milk from Mexican Billionaire. I believe Carols Slim is have decided for future Mexican F1 driver Champion in his mind.
I still believe Kobayashi is better driver than Perez if he has car like Perez and then he can win race one or more.
Unfortunately, his car was always problems.
Perez is good for financial term and Button will be benefit from that if the team give him full resource for his car.

.. Best pairing my ass. LOL

Button is hot and cold, Perez is inconsistent too. They're going to struggle next year imho.

Strongest pairing? Hmmm... I would say Hamilton, Rosberg.. But without a good car they're going to suffer too.

Best pairing? Has to be Vettel & Webber although Whitmarsh did say best pairing available. I like Rosberg and he is clearly quick but we don't know whether he is brilliant or just good until he is in a competitive car or has a known benchmark as a team-mate. Schuey is clearly no slowcoach but has been too affected by tyre and car issues to really assess him as a benchmark. Roll on 2013...

I wish people would get the hell of Whitmarsh's case.. Other than your dear Lulu not being babied anymore, what has he done so wrong?

The guy is genuine, speaks his mind, and that is rare these days.

As for you dweebs STILL hating on Jenson, GET OVER IT!!! If you are a Lewis fan boy and can't write a reasonable comment please exit stage left along with your driver.

I personally feel this partnership could either flourish and surprise MANY, or crash and burn. I think Perez tries too hard in the Sauber. He got a taste of podium, wants more , and it is not always possible i n that car.

GO MAC!
GO JENS!
GO SERGIO!

nick. agreed. it seems to me that whitmarsh is to be blamed for "everything"! but the simple fact is that he is a team principal, and all the wannabe principals on this site, have been ignored by macca. i wonder why?

however, yesterday, whitmarsh admitted that he did not know how good or bad, perez is, indicating that he (mw) might not have had much say in the matter.and there were other known quantities available.

we will have to wait and see if perez settles into macca, but if he does, i can see him challenging button. wdc?? somehow i doubt it.

Agree with ALMOST your whole post.

I, on the other hand, can see Perez being a WDC... BUT NOT NEXT YEAR... MAAAAYBE the year after. Maybe.

I think Mclaren could settle nicely as I see Jenson and Sergio having similar styles. This could lead to the car being developed in a similar direction, halving mechanics/technical staff's workload (or doubling efficiency, depending how you look at it.)

I also like that MW hasn't tried to say Perez is the best thing since sliced cheese, but the best that was on the table.

“He is going to find a different world at McLaren".

Mclaren history of loosing talent drivers is well known.
McLaren had the best driver pairing available for all of
2011 and 2012. True to its history they managed
(yes they did) to loose that advantage. I see no replacement
for Hamilton, maybe Alonzo or Vettel..Alonzo escaped that crazy world of McLaren and for good reason. Alonzo, good things are on the table.
Methinks your plan 'B' pairing will not cover the loss. The management at McLaren never changed. Through stupidity
and indifference they have dealt themselves a loosing hand...Nuts!
