Mclaren will regret losing Hamilton more like!!
Whitmarsh should be fired for letting the teams biggest asset go. Perez is no way in Hamiltons league as a replacement and Jenson has been embarassingly slow this season.

OMG..Whitmarsh sounds as if he himself is regretting not been able to hold Hamilton for 2013.
Hamilton made his decision to move away from the team in Monaco 2011. His decision was finalized in december 2011. Whitmarsh had 6 months to do something about it, but to wait until Monza to try and change Hamiltons mind was a failure. CLASSIC !!
Now he has to stick with mr NO GRIP, and admit that he has made a mistake.

If the money was on the table (irrespective if Merc offered a bit more) odds are the deciding factor was McLarens stance that both team and 'driver' trophies are for McLaren.

I know if I ever got to the point were a million here or there was of little consequence then trophies would be important to me if I was in a position to win them.

That said, McL have messed up too often this year leading to avoidable DNFs but then again Merc have too so I doubt thats the issue that swung it.

I remember reading Coulthard saying the time was right for Lewis to leave McLaren, likening it to 'a young man leaving the comfort of his mums house', he could be right, I would add that 'its like leaving your mums, and going to live with your nan, you get to stay out a bit later'

Dear Mr Whitmarsh you don't have to understand it, whats done is done ,all you have to do is accept it and get on with running your team .I was not happy that he chose to leave McLaren, but after watching the way this season has gone for him i can't blame him for wanting to try pastures new and go with some one who might understand his decision .But I fully expected Lewis's still boss to respect his decision and wish him well .Not to wish him to fail, how sad is that. Its gonna be mighty uncomfortable in the Austin paddock next week i'm sure...
GOOD LUCK LEWIS IN ALL YOU DO and MARTIN WHITMARSH YOU SHOULD HANG YOUR HEAD IN SHAME

Really bad energy from this guy Whitmarsh ,Lewis still has 2 more races with this team and he comes out with this to inspire him to help the team he loves for 2nd place...
I think a no comment would have been best....
I feel a go slow coming on......Lewis you've done enough already

" there comes a time when a man feels he has to flee the nest. I think it was a bit of that and a range of different emotions"

Whitmarsh should not be fired and I get the impression some of you haven't read the article properly. If McLarens money and options can't hold can't hold on to Lulu as he say then what do you expect him to do.
Looks like he LuLu wants a challenge that he may well end up regretting.............or not!!!
