Jenson Button says the McLaren MP4-27 has been a difficult car to tame

As for the 27 being designed with his input, McLaren certainly looked strong early in the season. But it doesn't mean the car remained to his liking as they made changes through the year, and also just as they visited different circuits. As he said, consistency across different circuits has been the main problem. That said, while Jenson's a great driver, I find it hard to see him taking another WDC due to his need for that perfectly consistent car.

Whatever car McClaren produce next season it will not be fast, consistent or reliable enough to win the championship especially with Button driving. Button changes his tune everytime he speaks and both McClaren and Button need to up their game for them to even be in the running for the championship. I don't see any of that happening unless there is a rethink at McClaren, they also need to get a one of the top drivers on board and apart from Raikonnen I don't believe thay have a prayer in that direction. Something has gone wrong at McClaren and they have gradually slipped away from the other top teams just as Williams did. It's not lack of money perhaps it's their constant bragging about just how good they are. Just possible it's time to get their act together.

I really wish you people would lay up off the guy.

He NEVER says anything horrible, he's never smug, he's humble and a gentleman to watch. That is missing from this championship.

Yes, he started the year saying the car fit like a glove, then came the FIA making Mac change the car (tea tray), which led to new upgrades, those CLEARLY weren't the best solution. They sorted it and he won at Spa.

Get a life. I love how you people have something to say about ANYONE in Maclaren BUT Lewis who does enough to deserve his fair bit of criticism.

I can't see how the 2012 car wasn't developed more for Hamilton, who deserved at least half the team's attention considering his excellent performances this year. Of course, it is also possible that Perez will grab the team next year. But really it is not plausible that McLaren would give Button all his own way. He does his best to keep his mouth shut about it, though, because he knows that it's the same for everyone. (Except Alonso of course :-)

nick, you should try be a comedian, button started the year saying "this year there are no excuses" after he had beaten his team-mate comprehensively in australia (as he has done every year he has been at mclaren) he then says alonso is not a factor in this year's WDC after malaysia and that he is only worried about his team-mate being his main competition for the WDC. then he chooses the wrong set-up from bahrain to canada culminating in him being lapped whilst racing kova and petrov in canada and you want to blame the upgrades when his team-mate was winning races if not fighting for the race victory in those races with the exception of bahrain. i will not even talk about barcelona where his team-mate beat him from the back of the grid.

since australia all he has being giving us is plenty of excuses

Dear CRASH, if you insist on deleting my posts at least make an edit and explain why. Is stating the truth about a drivers popularity (or lack thereof) 'round these parts somehow in breach of this board's code of conduct!?

I think this season has shown that Buttons World Championship win was a fluke and down to having a technical advantage.

People say Vettel has a technical advantage but for much of this season his car has been slower but like a true champion he keeps going and wins races.

Button can be a good driver as can Hamilton but only when the car is perfect for them. Others like Alonso keep going with inferior cars and still get results.

Several times this season Button has finished outside the points which is poor for one of the top 3 cars.

Im sure the car will suit him, now hes officially Mclarens golden child.

But it wont matter, he'll still dribble around mid top 10 like he always does, and maybe jag a win or 2.

Oh, and Button a 'humble gentleman' who 'never says anything smug?' Yea, it takes a real humble gentleman to call another driver 'Kobaycrashi'

Problem with JB is he's a perfectionist, and if things aren't 99% right he's unable to get the best out of the car. I sometimes wonder if he has teams chasing their tails trying to fix issues for him when they would be better just focusing on pure downforce.

If he doesn't win the title or come close in the next couple of years I think they'll bring somebody new in. He did a good job last year and was unfortunate that Vettel was so dominant... However, he'll need a car like he had in 2009 to make a repeat performance I feel.

If the MP4-28 doesn't suit Jenson's driving style, what car (except the Brawn BGP 001) will? Jenson needs the car to perfect but he can't have that 100% in all races. He's going to have adapt to make the car work for him if it doesn't suit him in some races whether he likes it or not.
