Jenson Button: I'd love to have a clean weekend, a trouble-free qualifying and then have a good run at scoring some strong points on Sunday

What a season 1982 was something like 11 different winners with nobody winning more than 2 races all season. I would love to have seen what drivers like Rosberg and Villeneuve could do in todays cars.

I'm not saying that Button is faster than Hamilton.

My whole point is that Button is WAY better than Hamilton fans give him credit for. They told us all that he would get destroyed and it hasn't happened.

And to everyone out there saying he'll never be WDC again, please remind me which McLaren driver has been closest to the WDC in the last 3 years.

And if Hamilton is the best in the world, as you always tell us, and has only JUST beat Button over 3 years, then surely that makes Button easily one of the best on the grid and a definite no 1 driver does it not?

bob so are you admitting then that Button is slower than Hamilton!!

Seriously though i think all drivers in f1 are extremely talented unlike us keyboard warriors who argue on forums. Even Karthikeyan and De La Rosa etc would all probably be within half a second of guys like Hamilton and Vettel but is the final few tenths that are the most difficult to achieve and THAT is the difference between Hamilton and Button, Vettel and Webber, Alonso and Massa. Whilst the number 2's have their days occasionaly they cannot keep the pace up week in week out like the genuine top guys.

How anyone can sit at a keyboard and suggest button is no good after watching some of those overtakes at the weekend is beyond me. He's had some brilliant performances in the macca this year, spa being the obivous one (when Lewis simply couldn't cope with being slower at 'the' drivers circuit).

Whilst it is clear Hamilton has outstanding pace (certainly over one lap anyway), he is not the driving god people make him out to be. He has not set the f1 world on fire as predicted. The bottom line is he has 1 WDC, just like JB. And he certainly isn't so good that we can excuse his obvious failings. Nothing gets away from the fact that he is a 'douche bag'. If he decided to leave for LA to play the bling Gangstarr he longs to be, F1 would be no worse off (in my humble opinion).

Bob, I wouldn't let these folks get to you. They will bend the truth to fit their image of Hamilton no matter what the facts are. He is a terrific and exciting driver, but over a season he isn't any better than Button. The facts state that they are very very close on points, wins, and championship positions, so close that they inseparable. 3 years is long enough for the swings and roundabouts of fortune and nmisfortune to even themselves out.

hammbo - i don't why anyone would disagree with your last comment, it is a simple fact. however, it is also irrelevant. it makes no difference when they won in their careers. the result is still the same. 1 wdc each. besides, hamilton had the priviledge of entering f1 with a top team. now he is moving off to merc, i suspect we shall see him rack up many more years in f1 not producing results.

I sort of agree and disagree with a lot of these comments, LH DID come in and set the world alight against Alonso ( regarded as the most complete driver ) when it was thought that Alonso would have the measure. I was never much of a JB fan and I do think the WDC fell into his lap because of the Brawn car,I always felt he was a very good and smooth driver but not particularly aggressive at overtakes tbh, however I think that since he's been paired with LH he's raised his game immensely, his overtakes and aggression have been brilliant but a little behind LH, JB may win another WDC with Mcl but he'll have to work harder for that one, LH I think will have the measure of Nico at merc, certainly more so than MS and I actually think he may challenge for a few wins too, I could be wrong but lets wait and see I'm looking forward to it, but for the last race of the year ...... GO GO GO ALONSO .......

Can't No Grip's fanboys accept reality? It's high time Jenson took the pension fund and retired! He's starting to resemble the deluded mental state of massa recently when he was mentally broken by Alonso. You No Grip bumchums are always harping about 2011, so let's examine the facts: fact 1, Hamilton 13-6 Button in qualifying, fact 2 Hamilton 3-3 Button race wins, fact 3 Button 270-227 Hamilton points, fact 4 germany 2011 mid season Hamilton 134-109 Button and lastly fact 5 from Hungary onwards LH involved in 4 race incidents (7 race incidents overall). So, in conclusion, Button beat Hamilton in the second half of the 2011 season and Hamilton beat Button 2 1/2 seasons. End of.

This is an interesting argument on one level, but completely irrelevant on another. The fact is they both have one WDC. People will argue according to which driver they prefer. Some say Hamilton is faster in quali. Others say you get no points for quali. Some say Hamilton has never driven a midfield car, but others say he beat a 2-time WDC. Some argue that faster means better. But others argue that it's senseless being 'fast' and killing your tyres when you engineer is telling you he needs 10 or 15 more laps from you, so that you can win the race. Some say you have to adapt to the tools you're given, eg tyre quality. Others say no, you are a racer and must race flatout and if you crash, then so be it. Team sponsors and investors might have a different view from the fans, but it doesn't matter. And so it goes on...

Moot arguments, a lot of it.
