Adrian Newey says he felt Sebastian Vettel had lost the F1 title when he crashed on lap one in Brazil

Vettel is a true champion. Alonso wouldn't have been able to pull off this feat. Also wouldn't have been able to do what Vettel did in Abu Dhabi. I feel bad for Alonso as he is a great driver. His car is rubbish when it comes to speed. Solid as a rock though. Maybe Ferrari can search Newey's trash bin for designs he has tossed in hopes it will help them keep up with speed :)

Looking at the post race pics, it's obvious the left rear floor section and body ducting to the center of the diffuser were seriously compromised. That Seb was able to still manage quick laps, extra stops, and a flubbed stop and still manage 6th is amazing. H'es proven more than once this season he is of championship caliber, congratulations to him and the whole team. Vettel haters will be chewing on this for weeks! Greta job and survival of one of the most ridiculous races of the season.

Last at the end of lap 1, sixth at the end of lap 8 in a badly damaged car - will people now finally stop saying of Vettel that "He can't overtake" or "He can only race from the front" or "He cracks under pressure"?

Rather than believing that SV managed to drive around a problem with the car as a result of damage I am starting to become convinced that a lot of the "bodywork" on an F1 car is pointless. How many times this season have we seen a front wing damaged only for the driver to drive as quickly as they were before. Quite obviously that part of the front wing was largely irrelevant to the performance of the car. Likewise, the damaged part of SV's car at Brazil cannot have compromised his performance at all. If it had, there is now way he could have posted the times that he did.

@ MJ
Yes I must admit I myself have thought exactly the same -when all those ugly winglets and flaps etc have been knocked off front wings and now extensive body damage like this appears to have had little overall effect

makes you wonder if each extra aero aid is partially countering/countered by effects of the other aero parts?

Maybe next seasons Newey will be a stripped down sleek design ?
