This comment is probably more due to my ignorance, but hasn't the season already finished?

My mate & me did discuss this on Sunday - when do driver contracts expire? Obviously it's not immediately after the final race of the season, is it a 31st December thing?

I bet his PR duties will be nearer a quarter to a third you say Lewis ..... no surprises there as the press always spend their time at the sharp end so on current form your time driving around in circles in 10th or whatever will certainly attract less interest than when you have been newsworthy !! But you have honed your skills at whingeing a bit, now thats something you can certainly expand on at Mercedes with their current form.

enjoy your holiday for 3 years, you deserve it

I hope for everyones sake that Lewis and Nico are competitive from the off. Surely most fans of the sport want a championship that is as exciting as possible and having Merc up there with Macca, Ferrari and Red Bull can only be a good thing?

While I'm a Vettel fan, Lewis is not too far behind in my simpathy. Rosberg might have needed the stars to shine the right way for his first victory.Lewis will not wait for such goodwill.

You are correct it is usually at end of the year a drivers contract expires before a team transfer but some teams may bend a little bit. Damon Hill was allowed to talk to the Jordan team but did not do any technical work until his contract with Arrows expired back in 1997 prior to his move his new team. I guess McLaren is willing to do the same thing for Lewis.
