richard - As I'm sure you know, there are many components to making a successful F1 car. The chassis/bodywork, which is the work of the designer, is one part. The engine is another big part, and the round rubber things are a third. This is all before we get to such things as race strategy, pit stops, or driver ability. Newey has never driven any F1 car, or designed the tyres for one, or designed the engine for one. He's one component of a team process. Even at Williams he shared the design work with Patrick Head. His getting sole credit for those cars is more rewriting of history.

johno. first of all, adrian HAS driven an f1 car. not raced one, but driven one!
secondly, nobody said that newey designs the tyres, but they are a standard tyre supplied to all teams. adrian has to design the car to use the tyres to the best advantage. similar with the engine.

of course the team is very important, but if you have a good team and a bad designer, you are not going to win the wdc. look at caterham with the same engine, or all the other teams with the same tyres

i believe, as to many many others, that newey is the main component of the rbr success

by the way, as far as i am aware, head was only involved as a designer with the early non competitive williams.

and thanks for educating me on how an f1 team works. i never knew all those facts.

Johno, Adrian was at Silverstone recently driving the RB6 and the Leyton House that he designed. There's a video of it on the BBC F1 site.

Also nice to know that he uses an A0 drawing board with a drafting machine the very same thing I used at the start of my career many moons ago.

@Richard, interesting fact concerning most passes...thanks for that. I concur that Newey, after the driver, is the most important person on that team. And of course.....the main sponsor. Cause without him/her/them we have no car/no team. I am sure you would agree. Be well!

McLaren said they had the fastest car overall in 2012, so all this Newey talk is strange. A Newey designed car was the fastest overall in 2010 and 2011 but not this year.

If Vettel can only win a WDC in a Newey car does it mean Alonso can only win one in a Bob Bell designed car (2005,06)? Because Alonso has not yet proven otherwise.
