Jenson became team leader at BAR Honda in 2004 at the age of 24 and did pretty good, considering the Ferraris were in league of their own at that point winning 15 out of 18. He got a bunch of podiums, finished 2nd a few times and came 3rd in the championship behind the Ferraris. After that Honda took over and showed the world how NOT to build racing cars for the next four years. I think he'll do just fine. Maybe not as many poles as Lewis but he'll win a bunch of races and challenge for the title for sure.

As for fading in the 2nd half of 2009, that was all to do with resources, ie the lack of them compared to Red Bull et al.

I'm a fan of Button, but I'm surprised by the autosport award. Lewis should have got that this year, he definitely got his mojo back and drove brilliantly. Strange!

I actually rate LH pretty highly. I don't hold the obnoxious behavior of some of his fans against him, though I can understand the temptation to do so.

He's a lot like Vettel, IMO. Both have suffered a bit from the intense scrutiny which comes with such early success. Some of the normal mistakes which ANY young driver makes get magnified way out of proportion when the young driver in question is involved in a title race. I do think that Vettel has shown more year-to-year growth though.

Now that jenson and whitmarsh have successfully ousted lewis, poor mclaren will have a tough time next year onwards with jenson at the helm and side kick one hit wonder boy perez.. following the leader

1) Hamilton is the only one who is capable of winning without having the best car.

2) Lewis Hamilton will shine at Mercedes.

3) Mercedes now have best F1 driver in Lewis Hamilton.

1) Alonso 2) Schumacher 3) Lauda

Wow, if these came from my mouth, I would be called by the regular loonies here a fanboy.

Lewis Hamilton is a much better driver than Jenson Button. Ask those three above.

Alonso, Schumacher and Lauda are now officialy fanboys.

Richard, early in the year Button didn't look too bad. But my recollection of that comment was maybe pre-season or at Melbourne, and he'd said he'd had input on the development. He didn't say the car was made around him, but he said he was comfortable in the car. And two front row lock outs for the first two races looked like they were both pretty comfortable in it. Doesn't mean the car was built, and further developed as the season progressed, around Button though.

by the way lee. if you want to use stats, why not use the last four years? button 2, lulu 2. or even show the points comparison? button clear ahead of lulu!

Lets use the stat from when Lewis started driving in F1 I guess that would be 4 - 2

@Richardd/pole position/straight talker - blimey mate, you've got some serious hate going on with old Jenson, eh? What brought this on I wonder? Jealous, much?

You can use all the stats in the world and twist it any way you want. In your case you're completely forgetting that when Lewis joined McLaren, for the first two years he had a championship winning car, and again in 2010 (when he could have won that title had he not starting throwing himself at Massa). Even last year and this he had a car that could win races and he did. For the first 8 years of Buttons F1 career he only occasionally had a car that could compete at the front and when he did (ie 2004) he did just that and was uber quick, sometimes splitting the much faster Ferraris! In 2009 he had the best car under him (as does Vettel now) and won a bunch of races from pole and won a title. What more do you want from a driver?

Get a grip Mr 'no grip'!

Better not start on the statistics from their junior careers. With LH being a GP2 Champion, F3 Champion, Rormula Renault Champion and Jenson finishing 3rd in British F3 behind Burti and Hynes!
