It's disappointing to note that Lewis never gets the credit he deserves, last year he was terrible and rightly got beaten by Button, this year he has been superb and beat Button, however the 2 point difference does not tell the whole story. Lewis had three dnf's when leading and one put to the back of the grid when qualified on Pole and would have won that race, he also had numerous team pit stop errors so he has lots over 100 points and I did not count when he got taken out by Maldonado and Grojean and had to retire beacsue of a puncture, Mark Webber remarked that Seb only had one dnf when leading and one when in sixth so I think all being equal Lewis would be champion this year. Alons did great also but was very fortunate and had car relibility except when take out twice.

@judge dread - agree with that. Vettel has been extremely lucky but that comes and goes over time. This year Lewis has been totally on it and really deserved better, both from Mclaren and Lady Luck. Alonso was the class act this year, just spectacular. But for those two DNFs and others (Lewis'?) misfortunes he would have been a worthy champion.

It's interesting, with all these regulation changes these past years, how drivers form can ebb and flow. Webber was great 2010, struggled last year, came back. Button great 2011, had a bad patch this year, Lewis the opposite. Massa seems to be back. Interesting times!

"Alonso was the class act this year, just spectacular."

Alonso was spectacularly lucky this year. Race after race he wound up on the podium thanks to cars ahead of him braking down or crashing out. Brazil, where he was promoted to a podium place after Hamilton and Hulk crashed out, is a typical example of his results over the entire season.
