I actually think this is good stuff from Jenson. He is nailing his colours to the mast effectively saying 'next year's car will be developed around me, so I will have no excuses'. Good on him for having the courage of his own convictions to say it.

The reason why these guys make it to F1 is that they are not backward in coming forward, and they put themselves out there where they subject themselves to the scrutiny (and occasional criticism) of F1 fans like us.

100% agree with Googleplex .. excellent post!

It seems that there are a lot on here who have no idea about F1. Jenson clearly states that he will drive the team forward, although as the season progresses Sergio's input will be invaluable ... he hasn't driven the car, he needs to learn about the team and the car ... this is all stated in the report ...

Did you really expect McLaren to listen to a driver that hasn't driven the car, that doesn't know the team, that has yet to turn a wheel in anger ... similar to Hammy at Merc, they can ask him what he wants, they can hardly ask him to improve something he has no idea of! ... really, I'm at a loss here to try and justify some of these comments ...

To know, you must understand, and to understand ... you must know! ...

C'Mon ... seriously ???

Button is ready to show what he can do, judge him on that, nothing else ...

I really like Button, i really do. But I dont think hes up there with the best of the racers. And I believe hes not gonna win any championships. I believe McLaren doesent have good pare of drivers next year and the fighting is gonna be between RedBull, Ferrari and Lotus.
All the best for Button tough.

Drivers Championship 7
Manufacturesrs 4

Well he did the same thing at BAR Honda in 2004 and things went rather well there. With a wealth of experience now and a supposedly good team behind him, he should be pretty well set. I have always been of the belief that his and Lewis' driving styles were too different to work together efficiently. 2011 had a car better suited to Button and he wiped the floor with Lewis. 2012 had a better suited car to Hamilton and he repaid the favour.

Haha- My post is only an observation that Jenson may have opened himself up to be in a No-Win situation
- hardly grounds to criticise and accuse someone you dont even know that they know nothing bout F1 (highly incorrect by the way, but there you are )
- and you go proving the ability for overall criticism to be sent flying with gay abandon just because you may not agree with certain sentiments
I sincerely hope thatJenson DOES succeed of course

googol. scroll back a year. after beating lulu last year, button made exactly the same claims for 2012, and look how that turned out. button is a steady driver, but like some others, will not win the wdc again, unless macca find a secret trick.

2010 - 2012 LH VS JB

Race Wins
Lewis - 10
Jenson - 7

Qualifying Head to Head
Lewis - 41
Jenson - 15

Championship Position
Lewis - 2
Jenson - 1

Button fans now hang onto how Jenson out scored lewis by 15 points over the 3 years, the only reason he has is look at how many times this year his car failed on him while cruising to victory! Look at how many times Hamilton went for the win and unfortunately had to retire from the race and score nothing, while his team mate tootled round behind him and picked up the points driving boring steady races.
Button will never come close to the speed and skill Lewis has.

Well Said Lee!!

All Button have is the total score over 3 years thats all they can cling on to.

Its there in black and white people.

Hamilton retired this year from the lead 3 times...
The same amount JB won.

So the wins potentially would have been 13-7
