F1 » Grosjean not expecting favours

Romain Grosjean has admitted that there can be no room for sentiment when it comes to filling the second seat at Lotus for 2013.

All three drivers (KOV, KOB and GRO) are very likeable and when at their best very fast. But the stand out driver here must be Kovalainen - his natural speed probably matches anybody and he makes few mistakes (unlike GRO and KOB). The psychological element of being a complete F1 driver appeared to be his weakness when at Renault (in the race team) and at McLaren, but he appears to have successfully come to grips with this during his time at Caterham. Teamed with Raikkonen he would be an excellent measure and foil for Kimi and a possible championship contender himself. The same could not be said of GRO or KOB, neither of whom, regrettably, are the complete driver that Kovalinen now is.

I think that after the last couple of year KOVI has really matured, and deserves to be in a better team, whereas GRO is too high a liability unless the team wants to rebuild the cars every race and KOB is not consistent enough although fast when he gets it right.

If Lotus have the ability to "loan" Grosjean out, they should seriously consider trying to get him in another teams seat for a season or two.

He is no doubt a fast driver, but you need more than just speed at this level, and if you can't learn it fast.. You're gone.

Kobayashi should be given his shot in a top team. If given the opportunity the media will be questioning the appointment I'm sure, but give him a good car and he'll make them eat their words :).

Kova already got a top seat chance I'm not saying he doesn't deserve a second chance but I don't see Lotus running two drivers from Finland with zero sponsorship money. I think the fight for the second seat is most probably between Grosjean and Bruno Senna who still has a strong friendship with team owner and with Renault also (his family).

Please let it not be Kovalainen. Kovalainen already had not 1, but 2 chances at good teams. I really don't get the support for him as he has been mediocre at best and should forever be greatful that one day in Hungary Lewis had a puncture and then 3 laps before the end Massa's engine blew up.

Just retain Grosjean or put Koba in the car. Anyone else available has not shown more pace than these two guys.
