To all the Lewis fans, this is what Warwick is actually quoted as saying:

“Mercedes have undoubtedly the fastest driver in F1 and we all want Lewis to be in a winning car next year and challenging.

“I desperately hope Mercedes will be competitive but either Lewis knows something we don't or he's lying in bed at night thinking, 'What have I done!'”

I suggest those too ignorant to know who Derek Warwick is should first do some basic research and then read carefully what he actually said about Lewis before putting the boots into the man.

Mclaren may have had the fastest car this year but they were also the best at shooting themselves in the foot. As a Hamilton fan I would much rather have seen him in a Lotus, Red Bull or Ferrari this season. You can't have the team throw away 100+ points and expect to be anywhere in the championship.

"Mercedes have undoubtedly the fastest driver in F1"

Hamilton is not "undoubtedly the fastest driver in F1". I chalk up this sort of remark to British nationalism. Even if they said he is "arguably the fastest driver in F1" it would be a bit of a stretch.

"One of the fastest drivers in F1" sounds about right.

I doubt he will win a race next season - Hes not won many in his years with Mclaren, where he had the best car or second best car. Seriously overrated.

Hamilton is the fastest driver unfortunately he was driving the most unreliable team and car in the paddock.Jeez he would've had better results In the sauber .Mclaren fail this year. late pits.break downs.Let's the math if every team finished without incidents mclaren would've swept the series..but that's racing.

@maze -you're linking Grosjean in with 4 world champions? Give your head a shake! The guy's a menace, along with Maldo! Neither belong in F1 - more like Nascar material if you ask me. And to all the fanboys, Spewis 1 - Vettel 3! Don't give me the fastest car crap. Spewis HAD the fastest car - maybe not the most reliable. Alo had most reliable - not the best luck. Vet not the most reliable - good (Newey) car - did an amazing job with it, as did Kimi. Give me a team, good designer, Vettel, Kimi - we kick world ass!

Derek Warwick says --"You are never going to see McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari out of the top three" Never..? really? I guess Derek Warwick must have skipped watching the 2009 where a guy named Ross Brawn built a car (called a Brawn GP) which whipped Mclaren, Red bull and Ferrari. Brawn and Honda sat out the 2008 H season and put all of their focus in 2009 and the result was a serious Championship challenger -- not saying this is going to happen again, or anywhere close to that, but Merc stopped 2012 development after Singapore -- I imagine to focus on '13 -- I'm guessing Hamilton was willing to punt on '13 in order to focus on 2014 where Mercedes will become a dominant player with the new rules. we'll see how smart or 'stupid' Lewis was in two years time -- keep in mind, these pundits said the same things when Schumacher left Benetton for Ferrari.
