I like Button, but he is no Hamilton, Alonso or Vettel. The only way he can ever be the de-facto team-leader in any team is if he doesn't have such a strong team-mate as those three.

He is a good, solid, and consistent driver, but he doesn't have the raw pace of one of the greats, or the ability to drive beyond the car n a regular basis. It will be very interesting to see how he matchs up against Perez next year, a driver that he should comfortably be able to beat on most weekends.

If he doesn't, then his stock will be very diminished, and Perez's greatly increased. Either way it will be very interesting in 2013.

How can he be a true number 1 driver next year when he got slaughtered by Hamilton this year in terms of pace!! We will always be thinking next year " what would Lewis have done in that Mclaren " When Buttom qualifies it 14th and finishes 8th or something.

Jenson didn't have a strong season but I think he should beat Perez next season as I think Perez is slightly overrated.

He doesn't have the speed of Hamilton but that doesn't mean he should be underestimated. If the car suits him better this season then he should be a championship contender right from the word go.

Button will have to sort out his qualifying to have any chance of winning the championship. If the car is the usual McClaren, not quite there in terms of performance and inconsistent together with the usual McClaren strengths of poor pitstops and dodgy tactics then Button will be where he tends to be most of the time, qualifying down the order and forever playing catch up. It's not the way to win a championship and he should know that after about 12 or so years in F1.

I am a big Jensen fan but I agree that he will have to improve his qualifying performances to be able to mount any kind of title winning challenge next year. I think with the team going in his direction that he can do it too, atleast I hope so. Time will tell. I can't wait for next season to begin!

Mclaren always seems to give their drivers a car that can win a race and if the car is spot on for at least 70% of the season then JB will be up there challenging as the car has to be dead on for him were LH is more adaptable and can drive around problems. But Warwick needs to see what Perez does as we all can remember Mclaren bringing a reigning WDC to their team in 2007 as a clear team leader only to find a young talent waiting to put his mark on F1 by putting the new No1 to the sword. So Warwick needs to see what the young Mexican can do.

I agree, Button has one of the best teams in F1 behind him. he will be the leader driver, so will have the best of everything made for him. hes not going to win the championship but he will be stronger thats for sure.
