@ Richard agreed Vettel did have a few problems this year just not as many as Hamilton who had dismal luck this season.

If the Mclaren was the fastest car this year then how come Button didnt qualify equally as well as Hamilton? That can only be the difference in the 2 drivers speed.

Some of the midfield pack will aim at Lewis as he is seen as someone who is fallen from grace. Like a pack of hungry wolves they will seek him out and challenge him for a duell on track as often as possible. Particuarly Sutil and Maldonado will want to tango with Lewis as they have old scores to settle.

@rb27 - I missed the qualifying caveat. I am not sure how you are getting any indication of a cars pace relative to other cars based on how the teammates qualify against each other. If your point is that Lewis typically qualifies better than Button that is fine but what does that add to this discussion?

Rubbish! The last third of the year the red bull was streets ahead of the other cars, the mclaren was very up and down, sometimes fast and sometimes nowhere all year.

Hamilton knows Vettel has a great car, so does Alonso. This will play on their minds a bit as they expect the Newey factor to be against them as well as the other guys

@Mark .. Just saying it may not be the cars pace that gets Hamilton to the front in qualifying maybe the true pace of the car is where Button Lines up on the grid!

I guess we wont know for sure untill we see how Hamilton qualifies the Mercedes.

It will be interesting if he's always 3 or 4 places in front of Rosberg! What then?

"The last third of the year the red bull was streets ahead of the other cars"

There's zero evidence to support that. In the last eight races Hamilton qual'ed 1,1,9,3,3,1,2,1. Vettel managed 6,3,1,2,1,3 - demoted to last - 1,4. The Red Bull was not ahead of the other cars, let alone "streets ahead". The same is true if you look at the actual numbers involved. The difference between pole and second, or even pole and fourth, was tiny.

Let me get this right, the fastest driver on the grid (haha) in the fastest car on the grid ends up 4th in the championship again? How does that work?

Oh wait it's because McLaren are a crap team right? Hmm so a crap team built the fastest car on the grid? This fanboy logic just isn't working for me I'm afraid.
