@Taipan .. referring to Button as the 'latest hate figure' is probably a bit too strong.. as some of us don't 'hate' Button but just think Jenson Button is a bit overrated and are anxious (and excited) to see him either prove or disprove that theory in 2013 -- having a somewhat Green Teammate will be a good benchmark. Also Mclaren should again have one of .. if not thee fastest cars.. so Button is expected to be in the title fight from race one on.. will he be.. or will he finish 4th or 5th again.. due to 'no grip at all..' or, his usual 'balance problems'?

@beeflin --
Button says- "I can really build that team around me and direct the team in a direction I like with the car."

I haven't been paying close enough attention to Sergio Perez to know what his driving style is.. but woe to Sergio if his style does not jibe with the Car that Button is 'directing' for himself.
Pressure ramps up on Perez to get the performance out of a car intentionally directed to suit Button?
Also Perez comes into the team with the further obstacle that Jenson Button has already wrapped the team around himself.. lol. The hills to the title that Perez have to climb have now gotten steeper thanks to his new 'nice guy' teammate.

@genuineF1fan - that victory by Vettel at Monza in a Torro Rosso was spectacular and is now, we all now, the start of what already is a major F1 career. In fact it's starting to look more impressive with time.

The racing has been great for a few seasons now, but Canada 2011 was truly memorable for the whole experience, rain delays, last lap Vettel mistake, etc and Button clearly is the master in those conditions.

@pole position - Hamilton was clearly a major talent from day one and took F1 by storm but he was also one of the best prepared drivers ever to enter the top level of this sport. Not just in driving but also in his level of fitness. He'd been groomed by McLaren since his early teens and jumped into the fastest car on the grid.

Sergio is definitely more of a work-in-progress. He's had some impressive drives this year but he's also made some dumb moves. And he failed McLaren's own fitness test. There's no way you can drive a whole race at the top level unless you have the fitness of people like Button, Hamilton, Webber, all the top guys.

You seemed to have a personal dislike of Button. If the guy's asked a question, he'll answer it. He's not 'jawing' about himself! All the top drivers have a shade of arrogance about them. You don't get to this level of sport, and take these kinds of risks, without having self-belief!

@ jim crint I don't dislike Button. I just don't think he's one of the best drivers in F1. He's a good driver and there's nothing wrong with that. He certainly shouldn't be a #1 at Mclaren. He's probably ranked #5 or #6 on the grid. That's my opinion.

@ Michael Fornarina From what I've seen, Perez has at least one thing in common with Button - he's definitely a tyre saver. It's eminently possible that Button's direction will help both drivers.
