Fernando Alonso, whilst accepting that Sebastian Vettel deserved to win the 2012 F1 world championship title, insists that Ferrari needs to sail a little closer to the wind when it comes to exploiting the rulebook.

I bet you weren't complaining when Brawn used holes in the rules to win the championship with Button?

IMHO Brawn was in their right, Button deserved champion etc. Williams used them to develop active control, McLaren en Ferrari flexed their wings, Red Bull flexed everything, Renault had exhaust tricks etc etc etc. Ferrari have been followers for a while, not innovators. That gives them a disadvantage, especially at the start of the season.

Well despite all the critics, for lack of this and lack of innovation and creativity and all there is, they did very well to come second. Every team would have done what they need to do to win.

Ferrari have been followers for a few years now. So, without Ferrari innovation, Alonso still comes second in the WDC. That's saying a lot...

People are criticising him, but by the same logic, if Ferrari innovated, he would win the WDC every year hands down!

He is probably right. Although I wouldnt call it cheating, it would simply be a case of if you cant beat them join them. In fact a classic situation for that matter. Use less fuel qualifying, use soft compounds for qualifying use flexible wings special routing for the zorst. Im sure they could even find lots of others.

Well there has to be a reason why the other teams that are actually slightly better than the Ferrari team, are better. All things considered, Ferrar relability in 2012 included- compared to the breaking down alternators and running out of fuel syndrome. While they only suffered maybe one gearbox (suspected) fault. Which sparked controversy from the hators, of course.
