Why is the English print media so determined to undermine this man at every opportuity? "There was no firm offer and the 43-year old was forced to accept that his days in the top flight were over once again." They offered him the chance to sign a new contract during the summer, and he said not yet. I think that was a pretty big indication that he may have been considering retiring.

If his heart was in it, he would have signed there and then. He's not an idiot, he saw that Mercedes are going absolutely nowhere so decided enough was enough. If he thought there was any chance Merc would improve next year then im sure he would have resigned in the summer when he was offered a contract.

"any chance Merc would improve next year"

Hamilton thought they would improve obviously...it's nothing to do with the huge retainer and freedom over image rights :)

If Shuey comes back perhaps Mercedes will put him with his brother in DTM (another serious under-achiever). DC couldn't drive a DTM car, Ralf can't drive one either!I just hope, after seeing the news this week, that Michael doesn't take up bike racing in a big way, because he just can't risk it with his young family.

patw. schumi had decided just before monaco, to retire, but his performance there made him decide to delay and re assess the situation. lulu was basically the main option from that date onwards.

as regards dtm. ralf has retired from that, so joining his brother would bnot happen. however, schumi appears to have declined merc offer as an ambassador, so cannot seem him being receptive, unless he goes to audi or bmw. i think that lms cars is the most likely.

maybe merc wanted him to do the job they gave niki, and he refused??
