@pole/hamster - how on earth can you come to the conclusion that Vettel's Monza victory in 2008 was a 'one-off'? He's gone on to win 26 races & 3 world titles! That Monza win heralded the arrival of a major talent.

Fangio drove the best cars. Clark had Colin Chapman by his side, Stewart had Ken Tyrell, Prost drove for McLaren & Williams at their peak, etc, etc.

But those guys got into those cars because they were recognized as being incredibly talented drivers, they'd proven themselves in lower formulas or junior F1 teams, as is the case with Sebastian Vettel.

Look, I'm not a major fan of Vettel but you can't escape the facts!

I knew Seb wouldn't come first here, but as a big critic to him I though he should have come 2nd maybe 3rd.
There are alot of Lulu fanboys here and the Beiber fanboys are growing all the time....... Yet there are hardly any Ferdi fanboys and he is going to win this vote.
It basically tells you that there might be some biased voting going on but the objective vote with Ferdi driving that Fez will win the day. This isn't about who won the WDC, it's about who people thought drove the best with what they had and even the Lulu fanboys are not sooking about it, the Beiber fanboys are.
I think this is good actually as it shows majority of people don't think Seb is all he is cracked up to be.
Let him prove people otherwise in years to come. If he can without Newey !

oh dear pole position - for such silly comments i think you need sending to the back of the grid.
i've been watching f1 since the early 80's. i remember Senna, Schumacher ,Alonso, Raikonnen etc making their debuts - my observation is that Vettel should be and will be remembered as one of the best ever. i'm not his kool aid swilling #1 fan - not one bit, i favour Button & Raikonnen IF IT MATTERS. my point is that since he first drove an f1 car the boy has oozed class, please dont try to kid us that setting fastest time in your first ever practice session doesnt count. he also scored points in his first ever f1 race. you dont have to love the guy - i just think you need to take off the lulu love goggles & enjoy watching history in the making.

@hamster

"... in the wet any car or driver could win the race...."

I always thought that drivers who excelled in the wet, such as Fangio, Moss, Stewart, Clark, Senna, were considered a cut above the rest. The title of rainmaster was once a proud boast, but you seem to be implying that it's just a lottery, all about luck. Vettel has had some notable wet weather wins, as has Lewis & Alonso, but the current rainmaster is Jenson Button, but since you don't rate him I guess you can't accept there's any skill involved!

In 2008 STR used Red Bull chassis, which was designed by Newey. That same year where some people argue Vettel did nothing more than win a wet race where anything can happen, he almost prevented Lewis from winning his ONLY TITLE. Finished 8th that year, well ahead of his teammate and both Red Bulls in a team that was previously known as MINARDI. Does it say anything about his talent?

I think Vettel fans need to chill no one is saying that Vettel has no talent but the cars he has been driving have been a cut above the rest especially the RB7 which had by far the most effective EBD which Vettel used to great effect so it is hard to know how good this kid is. But we all know he has talent.

I really wonder about you lot on Crash!
This is supposed to be about a sport we all love, yet all most of you do is cry like babies as your favourite of the moment isnt everyone else's fav! How sad, get a life & stop knocking someone who you dont like because of the way they look, walk, talk etc!!
It is about driving a F1 car better than anyone else.Give credit where it is due. I really do not like Alonso as a person but will admit he is a damn good driver. Whether he merits top of Crash poll is up to how many think he is Mr Wonderful & not how well he drives. Yes i think Vettel, Hamilton, Button & a couple of others are good too but i am not going to cry as they get voted lower than Alonso.

The man wins his third F1 title and you rate him 4th. This isn't a poll on who is the best driver. It's about who you like the most - period! A waste of time.
