F1 » Marko lines up new replacement for Webber

Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko has apparently earmarked the driver he would like to see replace the 'uncooperative' Mark Webber next season - in a move that could also spite main rival Ferrari....

@Bobby M.

Good points. Marko yet again showing he's not capable to do the job he's given. Apparently Didi/Horner sort of know this but still keep him around for the heck of it. Think about it, if Marko had more clout Webber would have been long gone.

Some people make this about Webber not being good enough (which I tend to agree to) and therefore conclude that Marko is right in making these comments. Really though it's just poor form by Marko to (again) make these kind of negative comments about a driver under contract for 2013, regardless of whether you think Webber should or shouldn't be in that car.

Marko does this kind of thing time and time again and you only have to look at the number and ratio of agrees/disagrees on comments expressing annoyance with him and his actions to know he isn't doing his job well.

Already you have promising drivers like Robin Frijns that refuse to sign with Red Bull because 'the program treats drivers like dogs'. It's just a completely unnecessary negative influence on the Red Bull name.

Although I agree that Webber should not be in that seat, it does no good to share this knowledge with the rest of the world.

Also agree that Red Bull treats their drivers, especially developing drivers, like pieces of meat and does not seem to have a lot of patience if they don't shine immediately. Webber is obviously not in the developing driver catagory, but simply an observation of their methods.

Have to agree with those who say that Webber has done himself no favours by his obstructive approach to the Vettel/Marko alliance. But it's very foolish of Marko to sabotage the team's chances for the constructors' championship by making these statements when they haven't even started pre-season testing. With the excellent level of competitiveness at the sharp end it will take all hands pulling together for success in this last season before the regulations change. That said, for 2014: Webber to Ferrari, Massa to Sauber, Hulkenburg to Red Bull.

Can someone give me one genuinely viable reason why Mark Webber does not deserve the seat he has retained for the seventh year running? Remembering Mark does what he can for the 'team' (NO Vettel is not 'the team'), and it is not up to any one driver to "give" points to another, as that is calling on disrepute to the sport and thus punishable according to the FIA.

@Giveaway

When you have two titles on the line, a WCC and a WDC and one is already locked up and the other is still to be decided, it is EXPECTED that the driver that is mathmatically out of contention assist his teammate who is still fighting for the title. If you cannot see how this helps the TEAM, then I can't help you there because its a matter of comprehension.

If Webber would have taken out Vettel when he squeezed him and lost the WDC, how would that have been for the TEAM? Boost of morale? Marko would have had his head and paid Webber's contract off and not had him in the seat in 2013.

Also if you had not heard, team orders are allowed to assist a teammate. Ask Ferrari about that.

I know the rules Pete, be sure of that.

It is up to each driver as individuals to race for, and win the championship, it is the other team driver's choice to help, if they feel they need to. There are no hardened rules of this nature and is only expected of those with little to nill foresight, if a certain team wants a sheep as their second driver, don't hire the one with experience...

RedBull won the championship with ease thanks to both drivers, that is what is important to the team, gets them their reward. It is the driver managers that get silly about this subject, like Helmut and giddy fans. Now, an answer to my question Pete?

Had to watch the video again just for the sake of it and really, I think you're all overreacting. He wasn't exactly being aggressive to Vettel, he left space on the inside up to the point where Vettel was fully behind him, and then he turned in that last bit. He didn't squeeze him, they were nowhere near making contact so what's the big deal? The start is a very busy moment, if ever there is a time and place for team orders surely that is not it.

jjj. it is great to hear that (according to you) marko is not doing his job. wel then,why ar you not the spokesman for red bull?

marko has brought the team to three wdcs and three wccs, so in my opinion, he has done a hell of a job!
and apparently didi concurs.

has anyone seen the actual comment from marko? all that has happened is that marko was asked a question by an italian reporter, as to whom he would like to see replacing webber, and he said that hulk would be of interest to red bull. to me that does not make a definite statement of intent! but, hey, why spoil a good story and deprive the haters of a chance to show their bias?
