It's a shame that a driver of Kobayashi's talent and charisma is left without a seat. However, I don't think it would have been much better if he landed a Marussia drive, for instance.
Nissan is Renault's partner, Infiniti is Red Bull's sponsor, why didn't one of Renault engined teams hire him?

That money will be keeping 2014 driver seat. He will need at least GBP 12 - GBP 15 millions.
Money kills talent in today Formula One.
I hope Sauber will call him back in mid year.
Also Kamui is Toyota guy and I don't think HONDA will sponsor him.

Kamui isn't a pay driver, so he isn't a ''toyota guy'' or what not, his ties with Toyota where gone after they left F1, where as Sato who is a Honda driver has never done a season of professional Motorsports without Honda backing, big difference.

I would love for Kobayashi to come back, but lets be realistic, in the current motorsport environment there is absolutely no way I can see him back given the current nature of the sport.

@Speed

Given the fact that Honda seem to be doubling down on their motorcycle racing program(s) e.g. Suzuka 8, WSBK, MotoGP, etc, there is absolutely no way I can see them coming back to F1, that is unless they can compete on the level on Ferrari, Mclaren,etc...

He was supposed to beat Perez this year, and have more highlights.

He has had 3 years at the team compared to only 2 for Perez. Perez even almost won a race.

Kamui is almost everybody's favorite, but when you run a team you only have to look at Williams to also realize what could happen if you don't make business decisions. So if 2 drivers are somewhat equal you almost have to take the one that adds to your bottom line. Add to that that Sergio is younger and can do just as good work or better.

Alonso is believed to be the best driver in F1, yet he is the biggest pay driver in the sport. That says a lot.
