Pirelli tyres: Yes, f1 has become more exciting to watch as the Pirelli's wear quicker and are not as grippy as Bridgestones meaning its better for the show.

DRS: not so sure, its a good way of allowing cars to overtake each other on a straight but at the end of the day it is artificial, but seeing as the f1 cars of today have become too fast, too aerodynamically efficient for the tracks then it is the only option unless they introduce standard suspension and aero wings which in f1 will never happen

Aside from litering the track with marbles the tires do have their merits. I find almost nothing about DRS to be good for the sport. Essentially DRS is a fancy way of implementing Berie's shortcut idea. Not only does DRS create an unfair advantage for the overtaking driver it makes the fastest lap time rather misleading.

The purists have their arguments, and I can relate to them as well, but for me, both issues are just one more regulation that all teams have to deal with. If DRS and the wacky tire wear are just plain wrong, then KERS should also go. We have had three great seasons while DRS has been active, and the last two with Pirelli have also been spectacular (well last year's SV walkover wasn't so hot, but still some great racing). When ever I talk to Nascrap fans about F1 they ALWAYS cite the perceived processional nature of the sport, the Pirellis and DRS have changed that paradigm, and for the better. FIA just need to get better at tuning the DRS zones in conjunction with the tire choices for each track, but overall I think they are doing a fairly good job.

Pre conditioned artificiality entertainment is what they both provide, but as long as a lot of people that nowadays watch F1 racing gets excited by this preconditioned artificiality type of racing it is deemed good for the sports which once was the real GP RACING.

DRS and Pireli tyres are a symptom of the problem and not the problem themselves. The problem is the forced equality of machinery which is making F1 another spec series. But I'd guess that the majority of F1 fans WANT that forced equality - in fact they don't feel it goes far enough. Look at all the people bleating about how supposedly "dominant" the Red Bull cars are.

The purpose of DRS and the Pirelli tyres is to put back some of the variability which was lost when the teams were restricted from innovating with their cars. Of course if you allow more innovation you have to accept that you will sometimes have cars like the MP4/4 or FW14B.

Of course, what most of these newbies mean when they say they want greater car equality is for their preferred driver - usually LH - to win. How will we actually KNOW when the cars are all equal? When LH wins most of the races! Because he is "the fastest driver on the grid", QED. Aren't you the one who always says that RB is "cheating" by improving their car?

How many races been spoilt by someone holding up traffic and the car in front gets away. F1 is a business and the last two years been terrific racing who cares how that's achieved. In actual fact the best car and driver combination has still won the championship and at least we not put to sleep in the process. Obviously the tyres have a big impact on overtaking, if someone has more grip they will drive past. But the reason f1 cars can't overtake is a combination of massive downforce inhitberting grip when behind another car and sanitized circuits. You talk about previous eras but the modern circuits don't allow overtaking especially with high downforce. Take the Hungarian GP was notorious for a boring race last years race was very exciting. That Mickey Mouse section at Catalunga just before the final turn is a friggin joke. The tyres drs and kers big thumbs up for me. Get over it and move on. D
