F1 » Raikkonen: Lotus has what it takes to win title

Kimi Raikkonen insists that the Lotus team won't have forgotten how to repeat the F1 title success it enjoyed with Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso, but won't be drawn on his chances in 2013 just yet.

Ah Googolplex, I demand nothing. I am, however, requesting those that can help construct the truth to do so, as there is a little too much rumour, innuendo, and personal criticisms on this site at times. I find it odd that the Lotus drivers and team seem so bullish on the season if in fact they had not bee paid for some time, and it appears the story is nonsense. But I would like to know the truth , wouldn't you?

Perhaps others know something we do not, but I have not heard that Lotus has not paid Kimi or other employees. Immediately following the end of last season a story circulated that they had not paid Kimi or others as they were waiting for Bernie to release the season's profits to the respective teams. However, Lotus immediately denied this story, and so too did Kimi's management team. Since then, they have added Coca Cola and other sponsors. I don't think there is any validity to this story at all. If I am wrong I would like to know the source of any contrary story.

I like that Kimi regards Lotus as the same team which Schumacher and Alonso won their titles, the first two in Schumacher's case. Because Lotus is Benetton, Lotus is Renault, despite the legendary name and colours it has. Has anyone believed that Benetton could beat Williams in 1993/1994, or Renault could beat McLaren/Ferrari in 2005/2006. Both those cars had a smaller budget than their imediate rivals. Kimi and Lotus can do it again and this time after Williams, McLaren and Ferrari the victim will be Red Bull Racing. Go Kimi!
