This is an absolute joke...
Chilton
Razia
Van de Garde
Bianchi
etc.
etc.

Then we have left out people such as
Kobayashi
Algersuari
Glock
etc.
etc.
who, arguably (or certainly, in Kobby's case), deserve another chance!

Here's another fact - excluding backing by car manufacturers, 10 teams in 2002 had title sponsors (the majority of which being non-tobacco), now it's just McLaren, Mercedes and Force India...

BERNIE!!!!!! STOP PRICING EVERYON OUT OF THE SPORT!!!

@Gaz I can see plenty of other ex-F1 drivers like Alguersauri, D'Ambrosio, Petrov (Moscow Raceway, anyone?) and perhaps Kobayashi (if this whole DTM-Super GT rules merger thing happens) joining Bruno and Timo in DTM in the next couple of years. Seems like one of the only championships besides F1 a driver can be paid rather than having TO pay... perhaps DTM will start getting better UK coverage if this trend carries on :)

Well it's good news for Dutch racing fans to see the first driver in F1 since Christijan Albers. Of course he's a paydriver but it was always going to be a paydriver in that seat so given that I'm glad he's Dutch.

Also I think he's a pretty decent driver that should at least be able to give Pic a hard time.

This is bad news, dutch drivers have always been a joke in F1. Either slow or unguided projectiles. Bad news for dutch tv viewers as well because a lot of the already terrible commentary will be diverted to antics at the back of the field. Pity the bbc does a limited amount of races. They have no idea how many viewers they have abroad..

Though I for one think it's a shame that Kobayashi, Glock et al are no longer in F1, to come down so hard on the new upstarts is a bit harsh.

Each of those poised to step up or stepping up were top six overall in 2012 (and Bianchi runner-up in WSR), so it's not like they're buying their way in without some pedigree to back it up, which immediately separates them from the pay drivers of the past you're lumping them in with.

Kobayashi flopped hard in both F3 and GP2 before he landed in F1, Alguersuari had only gone as far as FR3.5, Petrov took a couple of years to get up to speed, Maldonado was in GP2 for ages before stepping up and now he is a race winner...

F1 can't be made up of the same drivers every year, so if going top six in the very competitive GP2 Series isn't reason enough for them to step up, then where will they come from?

I for one am pleased some teams are taking a punt on some new blood and while I don't think the right drivers are necessarily exiting F1, we can at
