F1 » Alonso: Skipping Jerez test no big deal

Fernando Alonso: I can't say if it [the new F138] is a nice car or if it's good enough to make the difference, because tenths are not visible to the eye

Alonso is the jund of pilot who can drive a tractor to a podium he's that good. but time has showed he isn't a development driver he will drive the wheels out of an F1 prototype but both his titles came with superior Michelin tires while Schumacher had that engine failure that gave Alonso his secobd title. He clearly did not help fine tunning Renault later on and clearly couldn't help Ferrari like Schumacher did for ddeveloping.

@Bluemetal yep I agree with you on that that's the only thing missing from Alonso which is sad. Lauda Prost Piquet Schummacher and even Senna were great with development it seems like Alonso is just happy to drive a bad car over it's limit instead of taking the car to the next level with development.

@Kirch, I didnt know Alonso has experience with things like mechanical engineering and fluid dynamics.

I have this itchy feeling that maybe Massa is quicker in one lap though, and he might be the guy to look at so far as getting the car closer to the performance of the Red Bull or McLaren.

@Kirch @Bluemetal, both of you make good points but I would like to point out that the development of the 2013 Ferrari F138 does not end until the Brazilian Grand Prix in Nov of 2013. I am almost certain that Alonso is an excellent development driver because the process is continues throughout the year. I can only speculate that he might develop better around race data.
