F1 » Hamilton: I’ll just keep asking for downforce...

Lewis Hamilton says that there is still a lot for him to learn as he gets to grips with life at Mercedes.

jim. forgot to add.... jerez has an unusual abrasive track texture, which actually caused a lot of wear on the "normal" tyres. might explain why the "special" hards were the fastest. however, no track used in the season, has a similar texture, so that is one reason why times cannot be considered representative.

Cheers Richard, I read on the BBC site, some comments by Gary Anderson (who I think gives really great insights) about the surface at Jerez being far more abrasive than most circuits they race on, making it extremely difficult to actually gauge performance and also taking it's toll on the softer compound tyres, which he suggested could be losing grip even before the end of one fast lap. I guess it's all relative though, the cars are all using the same surface, but that may explain why the harder tyres work better. As to how they'll perform on less abrasive tracks we'll have to wait and see.

For Hamilton, at least the reliability shown by Mercedes during the last two days of the test must give him some comfort given all the problems had last year.

Dam, I just repeated what you wrote, I didn't see that post before I did. It is interesting though and just goes to show how nothing definitive can be gleaned from these days other than to note that their are five teams with potentially race winning cars. What on earth Wiliams are up is anyone's guess?

@ The truth, grip could be a problem for LH this season but I bet he won't get the real No Grips (JB)inside aid,ie-
"Lewis, you need to save fuel, your team mates been told the same info.
I'll never forget that piece of work, ever.
Wherever he (LH)ends the season,it gotta be better than the blatant mind screwing games he endured at McLaren.

@richard.....mmmm, that does not bode well. I hope McLaren do the business this year, but to be honest, anybody but Red Bull, for God's sake (although hats off to them, etc)
