Caterham team boss Cyril Abiteboul says his squad 'let Heikki Kovalainen down' after failing to give him a car that could fight for F1 points finishes

No Kovalainen let Kovalainen down, the arrogance of "I'm not going to chase any sponsorship because I'm not a pay driver". He should have a word with Alonso and ask him how much sponsorship money he brings to Ferrari. Then with hindsight and along with the current financial climate decided that attitude was probably the wrong one to take.

"no one was happy, the shareholders are not happy". With all due respect to Pic and van der Garde I can't see this being the right move for the team. Two drivers with one years F1 experience between them, you can't move forward quickly (to a points challenging car) like this. Maybe in a few years you could but if the shareholders aren't happy they won't stick around and the team could fold.

While I think that the team boss is right, it should also be said that Kovalainen is hardly on the same level as Alonso, Hamilton or Vettel. He is merely as good as Fisichella and still behind Massa when Massa still was in quite good shape and competitive.
