In some respects I can agree with Mika. In three years they seem to have stagnated and shown no signs of improving. I mean, the cars have been chewing their rear tyres up since they were Brawn and Honda.

What exactly was he expecting? Even if Merc where fastest on all 4 days people would have just said they had low fuel. If I recall correctly Vettel was 8 tenths off the fastest time in 2011 pre season testing and then he dominated qualifying in Melbourne.

Up to this first testing season the Mercedes has the biggest drop off in performance on the longer runs out of the top six teams (tyre degradation).
Nice new format Crash but the site is still near impossible to use due to the slowness which seems to be getting worse.

Merlin, surely you're not so naive. Of course Lauda is going to be optimistic. He's hardly going to admit the car's a bit of a dog is he?

In all honesty I think the Merc will be around the Saubers and Force Indias, though Hamilton and Rosberg should shake off the challenge of Gutierrez, Di Resta and whoever FI hires. Hulkenberg may be a thorn in their sides however.

I just don't see the team being up there. And if the rear tyres are getting cooked early again, Hamilton will seriously struggle, quite the opposite of what most expect to see. Don't forget he may have teething troubles with the new car. Having seen the adjusted times on the beeb website, apparently Hamilton is rather far away from Rosberg (estimated ofc)
