F1 » Anderson: Alonso my bet for 2013 F1 drivers' title

Gary Anderson: The [2013 Ferrari] car looks a lot better and is a lot better on the track. It looks a lot better on lap time. It looks a lot more comfortable to drive. There is still work to do to move it forward but with Alonso's determination, for me, he will be scoring big points every weekend...

Michael its like damon hill said "if Alonso can take the championship down to the last race in an inferior car what can he do with an improved one?"

Everyone is saying that it will be close because the rules are pretty much the same of last year. Than guess what? Mercedes seems to be two seconds faster than twelve months ago. Think about that another team (Red Bull, Ferrari or McLaren) has found two seconds too and their rivals just one. They whould smash the opposition. Yes it looks an imposible scenario but one team should gain an early advantage. I am praying that the top teams have a similar performance between them all the year because I really want to watch the 5 world champions in an open fight and people like Adrian Newey remaining aside. Because if Vettel manages to win the title with Red Bull being the 2nd or 3rd best package, he will finally demonstrate that he is the best out there, better than Alonso and Hamilton. Honestly I doubt that Vettel is that driver but I may be wrong.

"Alonso came very close to securing his third crown last year - and in 2010"

And in 2007. He has a habit of coming close but not closing the deal. Maybe he just can't win a close title race?

Did he have an "inferior car" in 2007 as well? There was nothing wrong with Alonso's car in 2007, 2010, or 2012. He's just not as good as people are saying he is. He's good of course, but no driver can finish within a point or two of the title in an "inferior car".

Didn't he do that last year? In case you have not noticed how things work - if Vettel wins his fourth WDC this year then for his critics that will prove that the RB9 was a staggeringly good car BY DEFINITION. Any car which Vettel does well in is automatically not the 2nd or 3rd best car, but the best car.

Alonso is always there or there abouts in a competitive car, in 07 his team were against him, in 2010 one critical error cost him in the final race, one critical error from Alonso in Japan 2012 cost him. A good chance he will be there ore there abouts this year.
