Martin Whitmarsh says McLaren has taken risks in its approach to the 2013 F1 season with the new MP4-28

The McLaren had some strong showings last season, but reliability issues cost Lewis arguably 75 points and Jenson a good handful too.

With ending the season as the best car on the grid and the massive changes for 2014, surely "developing" the car throughout 2013 would have been easier - and more reliable - if they'd stuck with the previous car and put their effort into ensuring it didn't break!

But no, Whitmarsh has to go and nerf things again.

@Shakey, the reason McLaren went with a new design was because they realised their car had got to the end of its development. They wouldn't have been able to improve it throughout 2013 by more than a tiny little bit, so fairplay to them, they could have gone the conservative route and left the car as is then focus on 2014. Instead, they're taking a risk, which is good to see.
