F1 » Button worried by lack of McLaren pace

Jenson Button might have won last year's Australian GP, but on Friday he couldn't even crack the top ten at the end of free practice.

McClaren appear to have screwed up big time yet again, why this keeps happening I don't know, perhaps it is time they replaced their top design staff because this is'nt the first time this has happened. Whitmarsh has a lot of questions to answer as all the build up to this season was that they would be shooting for the championship and look where they are. Button say's he sees no reason to move, I can't see anybody else rushing for the drive if this goes on.

have a feeling McLaren and Ferrari are sandbagging and things will be different in Qualifying tomorrow..........

Same old stuff every year..............

Problem with McLaren is that they now have 1 average and 1 unknown driver this year.

That McLaren car is quick, I guarantee you. The problem is that McLaren put itself in a situation where there is no driver now to push the car to the last tenth of second it can produce. And I said this towards the end of last season as Hamilton was leaving the team. I'm glad Button is proving me right. I know at least 2 drivers who can take that same car Button is driving and put it in the top 3.

Button may be the one now fighting to get to Q3 as opposed to what every body wished to Hamilton just a few mionths ago.

it is a bit early in the season to slate macca. they have a new pull rod suspension, that they need to understand. when ferrari introduced the same suspension last year, it took them nearly half a season to understand it, and then they went on to have a fast car. give them a chance!

At +2 seconds of the pace, McLaren are looking at being lapped in Melbourne. Didn't Jenson says something to the effect that Lowe leaving would not make a difference.

"I know at least 2 drivers who can take that same car Button is driving and put it in the top 3."

Really? Who'd that be then? You Hamilton fanboys always tell us that he is worth half a second per lap, so who is it that is worth 2-2.5 seconds per lap? Must be someone WAY better than Hamilton!

And before you Hamilton fanboys totally cream yourselves, I suggest you look at last years Q3 times. Button was only 3/100ths off Hamilton's pole time, so give it a rest will you. It's obvious that the problem is with the car.

However, ANYONE who thinks McLaren are doomed this season based on what we've seen so far really are as silly as a Hamilton fan!
