F1 » Lotus flowers in Albert Park with Raikkonen victory

The 2013 F1 season is underway, and already there's a surprise: Kimi Raikkonen drove a text book race to calmly outwit Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel to win the first GP of the year.

As much as I am a Webber and Vettel fan, I must say congratulations to Raikkonen. You just can not hate that man even if he beats your favourite drivers. I just hope for Webbers sake he doesn't start winning too much. . .

If Lotus can keep pace with the development of Red Bull and Ferrari, Kimi has a real shot at becoming a two time WDC. Kimi has the consistency of Alonso and the speed of Hamilton. The car, Lotus, is the only questionable ingredient. ,

Last year, Kimi's best races were in hot conditions, in which the Lotus excelled. They begin the year winning in cool conditions, better managing their tires and setting fastest lap near the end of the race. If they still have their hot weather performance Kimi will definitely be in contention at year's end.

Awesome drive by the Iceman. I'd like to see the stats on his undercar skid plate. It looked like he was sparking for a lot of the race. I wonder how close he came to having it too worn out and being excluded from the results.

The team could get some extra sponsorship off the back of this great start..to inject some extra money to stay competitive all season - they really owe it to Kimi, he was always within touching distance last year but the car just wasnt quite able to deliver the title..
