Lewis Hamilton had much to celebrate after the Australian GP, despite missing out on a podium finish after battling hard all afternoon.

This looks to me as deja vu! Last year too Mercedes qualifyed well but as the race progressed they started to loose time and places. I recognise that Hamilton did a great job at the wheel but Raikkonen and both Ferraris were able to get him on track after Lewis trying such hard to defend his position. Anyway his move to Mercedes is paying dividents, he drove very good and his new team at the moment has build quite a better car than his former team. Now they must keep the pace in the development race and they may win more than once this season. But I think that this car is very good for winning wet races.

Well they seem happy enough with fifth position but as Lewis reiterated in the post race interview he seemed bewildered as to why the guys in front pulled away so easily. So perhaps a truer reflection of the Mercedes team is that they are about the fourth team in the pecking order so far. Let's see what everyone is like in hotter track conditions next week then we can definitively say more or less where everyone is in relation to one another.

Great race today. A good solid drive by Hamilton. Was beating his team mate until he retired (shame about that) and destroyed his old team. Mercedes will need to work on their reliability....they've had too many issues in testing and now with Rosberg. They also need to improve their tire wear situation. But I think a couple wins are on the cards this season. Yes!

I wouldn't get too excited fanboys, Schumacher qualified 4th, 3rd and 3rd in the first 3 races of 2012 and Rosberg had a win and a pole in that period and we know how that season ended.
Lulu finished 45 seconds behind the winner and you think the car has improved?
