Jenson Button says McLaren can take hope from the way in which Ferrari and Fernando Alonso battled back to challenge for the F1 title last year

More like McLaren are not Ferrari. & Ferrari got good mileage on their tires last year, (sticks head out of window) and I predict just as good if not better mileage out of the new and devolved tires.

I faill to understand why people have such a short memory, or could it be that they are relatively new to F1?
Button is at best just an above average driver. He is not even close to Kimi.
Remember that he was sacked at Renault and replaced by then test driver Fernando Alonso. Yes Alonso was his test driver at Renault. Button was supposed to be the leader at Renault but was often outqualified by his teammate Jarno Trulli. Thus the decision to sack him. The car with which Button could not win at Renault was the same car the test driver Alonso won 2 World championships. What does that tell you? Button won his first race in F1 after 113 races.
I remember Briatore calling Button at the time "lazy" and a "playboy". And responding to critics who felt he shouldn't have replaced Button with Alonso the test driver, he said "only time would tell if I am wrong". And we have since answered that equation.

Jenson didn't help his cause by saying what he said about this car being the dog's whatsits when it turns out to be a total dog.
2.5 is massive. .Mclaren couldn't make that time up against Red Bull in previous years what makes one think they can pull it off now with what seems all the important contributers have jumped ship.
I'm afraid Jenson Button doesn't have my sympathy. ...He shouldn't of spouted off when he did (under McLaren instructions I bet). .He should grow up and show some humility. .like Kimi :)

@jimmy c

Button is not a joke, but also not a "top driver" like some of them on the grid.
U have to respect all drivers, cuz they are entertaining us and put their lives on risk when they get in their offices. Think about the fact that they all have a chance to end up like Senna. So if u All are really true F1 fans u should respect All drives....

And this comes from a Lewis fan... I respect them ALL!

Jenson is differnt variety when compared to lewis and Farnando. He is a lot smoother on the car which is very much necessary this year considering how the tyres ware out so fast, he is beter in the rain and he lets his car do all the talking. I am sure Jenson will not let Mclaren down. Like last year a driver needs 2 or 3 wins followed by consistent top 5 finishes to win the WDC. And i think Jenson is the most ideal driver to achieve such things

What constantly amazes me, is how people sit on this website constantly putting the boot into Button telling us all he's not a top driver and not even close to a top driver.

Then, in the same breath, they tell us how amazing Hamilton is and that he's the best.

So if we forget for a minute that Button actually out scored Hamilton over 3 years, let's look at the rest.

Hamilton - the best driver EVER scores 10 wins.
Button - a crap midfield driver scores 8 wins

Hamilton beats Button 2 out of the 3 years together, but does so by only 1 place in the WDC. Button beat Hamilton, and Alonso too I might add, over the course of 1 season but does it by 3 places in the WDC.

And out of this you all determine that Hamilton is amazing and the best ever and that Button is a crap midfield driver?

REALLY?
