F1 » Front row delight for Massa in Malaysia

Felipe Massa: It was a great qualifying in which we managed to make the most of all the opportunities that came our way.

jim. enzo always maintained that all he wanted was the constructors title, and did not care about the wdc. what he was saying was that his CARS were the important part of the team. possibly explains why he dumped those drivers who were a bit uppity.

i am not sure if tha ethos still applies, as certainly di montezemelo constantly goes on about the wdc.

hard to say which is right, though.

MASSA AGAIN THE FASTEST FERRARI QUALIFYING DRIVER
So for the 4th time in succession and for to-morrow's Malaysian 2013 F1 GP, Felipe Massa is the No. 1 Ferrari driver with the faster qualifying time! I always said Massa should be Ferrari's No1 driver!!

It's great to see some support for Massa on here. As Richard has pointed out, many were shouting for him to be dropped, not worth of anything other that rear field. I know it's a results driven sport, and on that front Massa unfortunately hasn't had a lot to shout about for various reasons, but he is every bit an F1 Champion. I've been a huge Massa can since he joined Schumacher a Ferrari ... his pedigree was exceptional, if a little erratic in his Sauber days ... but on his day, he's unbeatable ... the one good thing is that if he can keep up his quali form it will make it harder for the scuderia to scupper his race! ... I just hope he can finish as high as his quali position, even improve on it. :-) ...

I wouldn't rule out a win if he can manage the rubber and the stories Vettel have been spinning about the tyre deg is to be believed..

Obviously Ferrari has improved the most in the off season! Massa on the front row? He was shocked and knows he was LUCKY!! Vettel will win the title again thanks to Adrian N. Funny how in Europe everyone accepts RB's dominance, with no complaints. Newey should be forced to go to Williams or Force India.

I dont see as much support for massa as pure vitriolic hate for alonso. For many people here wouldnt mather who would be the other pilot in his team as long as would be doing better. I bet alonso manage to finish the championship 50+ points ahead of massa, he is the most consistent pilot out there and its almost impossible he commits a mistake, even if he is not the fastest, thats his style, that has always been his style and comparing him with a pilot that half the races performs poorly, sometimes for many races in a row, its just silly.

Now that Felipe has emerged as the faster Ferrari driver they should make him #1 driver giving him updates and optimum strategy first. Why complicate matters by having to switch them in the races all the time. No more energy wasted on Alonso and his pipe dream of a WDC title with Ferrari, which isnt happening anyway. He has had his chances, now it should be Felipes time in the sun. Lets see if he can beat Vettel to the title. Because Alonso can not !

Great job by Felipe, always been a fan since 06 but he will never be able to keep up with Fernando in the race. Last time out 20 seconds behind, brazil 10+ behind. Its alright getting the job done in quali but match it in race pace

@ Nathan:

Not really a good argument. Alonso was ahead due to strategy. It is very hard to infer race pace between team mates in reality. I don't know which one is actually faster.

I am a Ferrari fan first, Massa second. Alonso, while fast, could come or go (granted he did a great job with the car last year). I'm just happy that Ferrari seem competitive from the start this year.

Im just basing my argument on the fact that Massa's always at least 10 seconds slower in race conditions than Alonso is.I wish he wouldn't be and Im sure in time he will improve. Lets not forget Massa was the best driver in 09
