I'll admit I'm not the world's biggest fan of Cal, but my first reaction on reading this headline was "hey, cool!" I can only hope this is an indication of someone other than the factory riders actually having a similar pace. It probably won't last all year, but we might as well enjoy the variety while we can.

not as great as cal makes out... given the 2 yams of Rossi an Lorenzo were just testing a new chassis today for literally an hour or so of track time on new chassis. IF htey carried on with ther normal 1s (from yesterday) im pretty sure it wouldve been Rossi an jorge or the other way around...but who knows. They know where they are. They too are confident. an the race is a different story, these 2 guys have the best consistency on a bike in a race. cal throws himself off very often, marques too, pedrosa gets a bad fall an thats his confidence for a few races. so gonna b a good season i think.

Its a new season and Cal is going to have to learn a new trick.. don't fall off! He can, and does, put in a good quick lap but when it comes to racing he lacks quality. I hope he does well this season though, he was good last year but fell far too much

@wiseman, Lol!! If Vale ran over a nut that was on the track, it could account for the time diff between him & Cal. No, but seriously, Cal is prob the top non-factory guy. I still think that equipment is not the issue for him, it's consistency. He should be in the top 5-6, meeting his goal in Qatar. I fear he's the next gen Colin Edwards tho, and won't see a "W" with the likes of JL, DP & MM being around for another 6-10 years. Plus, Pol Esp and Mav V will be arriving. Best of luck to him all the same.

testing is one thing, but racing is something else, it is not a time trial, ask stoner about that and when someone else is making choices and challenging you for space and pace. if rossi is there in contention, then rossi is there and no other rider has that something like seeing the alien at your door, you gotta take a second look and then that might be all you get..rossi may be over but if he is there you got to give some thought to: is that for sure, today?..that is quite an edge and if his bike is working well the doctor may be BACK!
