@Googolplex
Last year it took 1300 kilometres of intensive testing at the Mugello Circuit to turn the Ferrari round so even in this season of hope. They need to get a grip on reality and ditch car for the old model while there is still time.

Well he never managed to win it when the Mclaren was competitive so not much chance now.
Never deserved the 2009 win in my eyes the car won that championship not the driver. He will probably get the odd good result due to rain and safety cars like he usually lucks into but the championship no way.

Admire the optimism. He has a point though. You can't count people out so quickly. I remember McLaren in 2005. They had a pretty dismal start with Raikkonen but upgrades meant Raikkonen ended up challenging for the title. Only reliability stopped him. So in such a competitive environment it's not something out of the realms of the possible for McLaren.

And to be honest I'm disappointed with a lot of comments here. What's with the defeatist attitude? Maybe it's just a bit of bias against Button which I've noticed creeping in the last year.

Where's the balance? I don't see much of that here anymore. Shame..

I like Button, but I don't think he's top draw. I suppose he has to say he has a chance but he knows deep down that he does'nt. Several things count against him, (1) He drives for Mclaren, (2) He does'nt qualify well enough, (3) He's erratic in the races, one race brilliant, next race no grip, (4) This years car is off the pace and unless Mclaren can fix it he's at best a midfielder, (5) Poor pitstops and unreliability, (6) There are at least four drivers who he can't match on a regular basis. To do it with all that against him would indeed be lucky and he should'nt be counting on luck or the lack of it in others.

@Sokudo.
Well said, about time somebody else spoke up! Crash may as well have said, "Those who hate Button, please click here" ! How can people really be so serious when there have only been two races and that McLaren are one of the best teams at developing their car all through the season. GO Jense, GO!!

sokudo. the negative comments are made against macca, by those who are upset because the pushed out lulu! but i see no reason why the macca might not turn out to be a good car. possibly stretching it a bit to say that button could win the wdc, but it is often the case where the eventual wdc has started the year in a poor handling car, only for the team to overcome the problems and turn things around. it is farr too early to write off any of the top five teams.
