Felipe Massa currently sits above Ferrari team-mate Fernando Alonso in the F1 standings, but will he be able to sustain the challenge?

Massa has the ability. This year will be his best opportunity to prove he has the mental toughness. As we've seen with Red Bull, the key differentiators are race starts and pit strategy, with Vettle demonstrating superior skill in both over Webber. Massa however has proven that he is quite good at starts, but needs better pit acumen to upset Alonso in the team order. if Massa beats Alonso heads up this weekend, then Ferrari may start hedging to support him.

Felipe finished 13 seconds behind fourth placed Nico Rosberg in Malaysia, Stefano Domenicali has gone on the record saying that he believes Fernando could have troubled the Red Bulls, so Felipe will have a tough time (as always) against the othe Ferrari over the whole season.

Wheel to wheel with Massa, doubt it. When it comes to race craft and speed Fernando is hard for any driver to beat. Only last week, Lewis said, out of all the drivers Alonso is the one to beat, and that comment had nothing to do with history, it had to do with race drivers...my opinion only.

I cannot see Ferrari allowing Massa to beat Alonso, the favoured son. However, Alonso to date has not won the championship which Ferrari so much wants and if Massa continues to outdo Alonso maybe the favouritism will slide towards him.

He can but the team is not set up for it, in my opinion. I would love to see Massa win it all but if it is close, unlike Vettel, Massa is a loyal team driver and will yield to Alonso.

Can anybody who really knows, answer this question. "Does Alonso's contract state that he is number one in the team?" Because I think he has that in his contract and however well Felipe may drive, as long as there is a mathematical chance of Alonso winning, he will be given that chance.
