Sir Jackie Stewart says he feels Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes could emerge as challengers for the 2013 F1 title

Mercedes might find themselves in a similar situation to RBR and Ferrari now. I think they may have underestimated Nico and expected that Lewis would be instantly quicker. It would be a travesty if the championship descends into a parade of teams driving around playing follow the leader due to team orders.

The only top team where that is not likely to happen is Lotus.

Yet more nonsensical comments from this man. Great driver though he was, he should keep comments like this and those he made about the protests in Bahrain to himself.

Saying LH can win the title does LH no favours at all simply raises expectations.

@"Only Vettel has a better score rate than him (after four years) in the current grid and he has had a car advantage in each and every one of the last four years"

What makes you think so - apart from Vettel winning things?

Love that circular reasoning - any time Vettel finishes ahead of Hami it's because he has a "car advantage"!

@"Lewis Hamilton won a WDC and finished runner up too. Since then RBR have held a far superior car - fact"

Lewis Hamilton only won a WDC and finished runner-up because he had a far superior car - fact. Without a superior car over the last four years he's been nothing.

I'm being sarcastic here, but the style of "argument" favored by the Lewis fans cries out for sarcasm.

So, in a way I'm correct!
Unless you have the best car, you can not win a WDC?

Hamilton as champion.
Good prospect. I would enjoy seeing it.

But let's all hope, even with the Tyres, KERS, DRS, which a lot of people dislike, that the competition LASTS right to the last race, with more than two runners.

Personally I do not have a problem with all the features now in the sport, as above, development and engineering are key, and most of the teams have all the extra bits.

zelda. "unless you have the best car, you cannot win the wdc" ??????

oh yes you can, if your name is vettel. :D :D

only in 2011 did vettel have what was acknowledged to be the best car. yet he won in 2010 and 2012, in the second or third best car!

By definition the car which wins the WDC is commonly called "the best car". So yes, by that definition you cannot win the WDC without "the best car". Of course the only reason the RB's of the last few years are considered "the best" s because Vettel won i them - just as the only reason the 2005-06 Renault's were the best cars" is because Alonso won in them.

We're currently in a Golden Age of F1 at least in terms of the quality of the drivers. Vettel, Alonso, Hamilton and Kimi are all terrific drivers, among the very best the sport has ever seen. It's unfortunate that more people can't admit that.

HAM is a great racer & he shows in every race. He's now got a good partner in Nico & a team that's fair in Mercedes. MacLaren disappointed him grossly last year as he could have gained lots of points in a lot of DNFs & those silly Whitmarsh pit stops. Interlagos was his if it hadn't been for Hulkenberg's Maidonado style of driving! Hate HAM but you know it, HE'S GREAT!
