Well, the pundits were saying he has a more aggressive style then FA and his comments support that, but I'm not convinced his strategy was watertight either.

Funny how the exact same thing happened to Rosberg (before he retired), Grosjean and Perez. All of them were running close to their teammates, but after their first stop they dropped well back and ultimately finished 30-40 seconds behind their respective teammates.

Actually at the first face of the race there was a time when Massa was pushing Alonso (was a shade faster), I do not believe this graining problem is driver related (Rosberg) had it too), it is more to do with the tyres being in the temperature operating window which can be greatly affected by suspension setting.
There might be something the teams are using to sort of stabilise the ride height that is still a highly guarded secret which is not yet perfected and is effecting tyres behaviour when not working as it should.
