"Sergio has been very polite so far this year. I think he needs to toughen up," says McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh.

I'm all for giving everyone a fair go and don't think Perez can be judged after only 3 races, especially with the car as bad as it is.

However, unless his performances improve later in the year I would suggest he won't be with McLaren in 2014.

Button and Webber for McLaren in 2014 anyone??

I think people are being a bit unfair towards Perez he has only had three races for Mclaren and you cant expect him to do a Lewis in going to another team an instantly beating the resident driver.

Hope Whitmarsh will be patient with Perez becuse it is impossible to replace the driver that has left.

Romain Grosjean would have been a far better driver than Him... Perez is fast only when everething goes according to plan ( calculation)... Button is doing just fine But I don't see Perez stay at Mclaren post 2014 ...

Unfortunately, I believe that rather than the team creating an issue for a young drive it is the talent and speed of the team mate that dictates the fortunes of a driver at McLaren. Kovalainen was completely outpaced by Hamilton and now it looks quite likely that Button's racecraft is going to put Perez in the shadows.

isnt it funny?? last year, everybody was saying that perez was a great talent and that ferrari etc should snap him up.

well macca did, and what are you all saying now?

i didnt think that he had exceptional talent last year, but i am all for giving him a chance.

People saying Macca has plenty of money may not realize that Vodafone Title sponsorship ends this year.. (and imo unlikely to be re-signed) Look for Telmex Mclaren next year.. and Whitmarsh telling Sergio to toughen up my take is because McL was hoping Perez would become their next Latin Senna -- I think they want JB to groom him to take over as Mac's no.1 driver Telmex won't be happy to have Perez as no.2 imo..JB better enjoy his time as 'team leader' imo.

Also I keep reading people referring to Perez as a 'rookie' keep in mind, Perez has been in F1 for Two seasons already.. while he is the same age as the guy he is replacing (Lewis Hamilton) 22 while starting at Mclaren--Hammy was an actual rookie when he took that seat .. while young Sergio is already a 2 year Veteran -- Lots of people got angry at Ferrari and Luca M. When he said Sergio was not ready for a topliine drive.. so far, it's looking like Ferrari was correct.
