The Button fans like to harp on 2011. whereas it took Hamilton having his worst season EVER in F1 and lots of family (Dad) love (girlfriend) and management problems (dad again..) for Button to beat him -- fact is, Hammy won best two out of three.. even though he had lots of car reliability problems. pit-problems, strategy-problems.. and in 2012 -- Martin Whitmarsh chose to FAVOR Button as no.1 driver with best race strategy and first crack at new development parts -- (which led to Hammy outing McL on Twitter for having mislead him at SPA) -- Don't agree with that one -- but i DO understand why Hamilton is not longer at Mclaren .. and people will think it is a coincidence when Macca continues to flounder under the 'Leadership' of Whitmarsh's chosen number 1 driver JB.
While Merc with Hamilton will rise in ascension -- and they will also say that is a coincidence. Ha, ha.

@Jim
@oldtimer, did Button have a 'huge advantage' in 2011 when he beat Lewis in the same car?

It doesnt change the fact that in 2011 he finished nearly 150 points behind the eventual winner, if am Correct Vettel wrapped up the time in Japan with races like Korea, India, Abu D and Brazil to come.

@jim

Perhaps you should send a dictionary to Jenson so he can look up the meaning of the word fight.

What he did after asking the team if he could fight Lewis on Sunday was roll over in submission.

omo. no, it was a strategic move by macca to ensure that the tyres lasted. he was going to be passed anyway, and there was no one else to challenge him. others, such as seb, also did the same.

Honestly, some of you Hamilton bum boys/Button haters are are walking talking contradiction.

Yes, in 2011 Button beat Hamilton and yes, Hamilton had a bad year, but was Hamilton the only driver he beat? No, he also kicked Alonso's butt as well - you know, the other driver you all think is amazing.

You then go on to tell use that even though he beat Hamilton in 2011, he was still 150 points shy of Vettel who won, so he was no where near the WDC.

Right, so you right off Buttons WDC in 2009 because of his car advantage, and then go on to tell us 2011 didn't count either cause he still lost the WDC by such a big margin - to a car that was more dominant than the Brawn of 2009!

I think McLaren's plan to introduce a new car was brave, but it appears to be the incorrect strategy at this point. Yes, they will be able to further develop their car compared to the other teams but the deficit will be great. I think Jenson could win two to four races in the second half of the season, but I believe Kimi, Seb and Fernando and perhaps even Lewis will win two to four as well, and they will rack up points when they are not winning. Button to win races? yes. To win the title? Major long shot.

@michael fornarina

Like I said, he also beat Alonso in 2011.

And was Hamilton the only McLaren driver to have pit/car problems? I don't think so.

And when exactly was Button favoured with race strategy? Do you mean as far as the right tyre call whenever it started/stopped raining? Yeah, sorry pal, that's your little idols call, not the team's, and one he hilariously gets wrong 99% of the time.

And Spa 2012? Are you kidding? They were both given the option of what wing to run, Lewis chose the wrong one. As amazing as that sounds considering all you Hami lover boys keep telling us how amazing he is at car setup, it's true.

And if for one second you think that Mercedes car for 2013 is better than the last 3 years has ANYTHING to do with Hamilton you will confirm that Hamilton fans really are thick.

@bob tell us, in the last 25 years a driver who won races and won the WDC

@Richard.... so does the fight or no fight only applies to the Silver Mercedes or Everyone? because he only asked to fight when he saw Lewis...

Perez didnt call the pit crew before he wiped off kimi's nose..

WHAT A NEGATIVE BUNCH EVERYONE HERE IS!

"Button doesn't have the raceday pace of Seb, Lulu, Ferdi & Kimi" that is complete rubbish he has the race day pace it's just the out right qualifying pace he lacks which he makes up for in the race.

I'm a little sick of pointing this out but for people that actually want to make a valid argument against this go and look at Buttons consistency in race pace of the past few seasons. His race pace is fast and consistent while people like Hamilton and Vettel are quicker over a single lap their long runs (apart from this year) are never quite as quick over a long period of time over Buttons.

I'm glad that Button is keeping his head up it's better than having someone like Hamilton being negative before the season and counting himself out the championship hunt, Button and McLaren will be back in the hunt for victories before mid-season.
