Button going from "I can still win the championship" to "Don't expect too much out of us" shows good progress
My advice to Button the last time was that it's good to be optimistic, but it's better to be realistic. Given his current form and that of his entire team, the only way to boost his morale is to set realistic goals (which is about 8th or 9th on the grid) and have everyone say good things about him if he finished the race in a higher position. The opposite only hurts him.

Bad fortunes endured by some drivers (not strategy) gave Button 5th place at the end of last race in China. Given their current pace, Massa, Webber and Rosberg (beside the top 4 finishers in China) should normally finish ahead of Button, no matter what strategy McLaren uses. It's like someone trying to convince me that Marussia can outpoint McLaren with the optimum strategy. Realistically, the best position for Button currently is 8th, behind Kimi, the 2 Ferrari, the 2 Red Bulls and the 2 Mercedes. Luckily for

Luckily for McLaren, Grossjean is slow in getting up to speed. And if McLaren is not careful, they might just wake up and find the Force India ahead of them.

Mclaren don't seem to have made much progress despite initially flattering during first practice, we're now four races into the championship so any realistic chance Button had of getting into the championship race have all but gone. One would have to asume that a major redesign of the car is on the way because tinkering around with it have produced little in the way of speed, maybe last year's car should have been rolled out while they produced a new or totally updated car because the current one is going nowhere fast (or rather slowly). It's a great shame for Button and goes to show just how far Mclaren have fallen from the top level. They are now effectivly a mid grid team and who would have forseen that a few years ago.
