F1 » Bahrain Grand Prix 2013: Alonso rues DRS problem

Fernando Alonso: We definitely didn't have much luck today and that's a real shame, at the end of what had been such a positive weekend.

Why on earth would they allow him to use it after it got stuck the first time? Imo too much of a risk that what happened would happen. Stupid Ferrari they brought this on themselves today regarding Alonso!

Perhaps if he hadn't cheated with it at the end of lap 3 it wouldn't have broken later on. He clearly activated his DRS at the start of the home straight when the DRS zone doesn't start til half way down. Still waiting for Ferrari to be penalised over this.

@ Shannon

You'd be glad to learn that Alain Prost agrees with you. He stated that the Scuderia should have asked Alonso to take no risk and wait for his final lap before a scheduled pit stop to test if the DRS worked or no. His extra stop cost him a place near the podium probably.

Massa's problems were heartbreaking- he's finally been doing well again and it all fell apart.

Alonso, on the other hand- yeah, never feel too bad for him. Further back he finishes, the better I like it.

Not sure how Alonso even triggered his DRS. When he passed Rosberg it was working ok but sometime between then and lap 8 it was triggered. Vettel was more than a second away that whole time, so how could he trigger it???

@Bluesalmon

He used the DRS to pass Rosberg but after that the DRS flap remained open.
If you noticed, once he passed Rosberg, Alonso's pace dropped rapidly and was holding the entire group behind him up (he had to go slowly through corners and lost lap speed), but after he pitted, and was on a clear track, he was going a lot faster than everyone he was holding up earlier.

The law of averages is catching up with Fernando. He had almost no bad luck at all in 2012 (except when Grosjean took him out) and got a lot of points from other drivers bad luck so it seems that that is evening itself out here.
