F1 » Bahrain Grand Prix 2013: Alonso rues DRS problem

Fernando Alonso: We definitely didn't have much luck today and that's a real shame, at the end of what had been such a positive weekend.

As per the other thread, just go to 20 minutes on the iplayer show, and watch Alonso's green DRS light come on, and then watch the Ferrari take off. I'm very skeptical that that speed boost could be caused by KERS alone, considering Rosberg was also receiving a slipstream from the car in front of him.

And consider the odds of a graphic malfunction at exactly the point that you would choose to activate DRS if the choice was yours. Not good.

If somebody could find me another example of a car getting that kind of speed boost at that point on the track from KERS alone then I might accept DRS was not being used. But I think you'll struggle. As far as I can tell, Alonso was the only person the whole race who managed to execute a pass on the home straight before the start/finish line. All the other (proper) DRS passes occurred much further down that straight. A good example from only slightly further back would be at 1:12:45, Hamilton on Webber. And that's a Mercedes (fast in a straight line) on a Red Bull (Slow in a straight line). Go figure.
