F1 » Bahrain Grand Prix 2013: Perez was too aggressive, says Button

Jenson Button: I didn't feel it was the cleanest racing with Checo and myself. I think it is great that we are allowed to race and that is fantastic. But into Turn Four we were wheel banging and that's not normally the way I like to race.

@Crash.net mods

I posted that Button was slow and that it would have been better if he had let his teammate through. How the heck is that a driver insult?

EDIT by CRASH.NET! That is not what you wrote. You included an insult.

@ whizzo, What Did Button say when you told him...?

@ some of the others. The fact is that Jenson wasn't whinging that Perez was racing him, it was the way he was racing him. Like it or not, it is the team that counts and it is the team that the driver has to consider. ANY team head will tell their drivers that the worst thing you can do is hit your team mate. If people raced in the manner some of the posters on here suggest, it would turn into banger racing. F1 cars are mightily expensive and championship points are of the utmost importance. You don't get points by hitting your team mate. Perez was very fortunate that he didn't take both of them off the track and that just ain't clever!
@crash.net, this site is very, very slow to use, what's wrong with it, is it all the adverts?

We all saw that Perez was aggresive, but i guess thats expected from him. He should not have hit button but it looked like button slowed down a little to much and just wouldnt let perez pass. In the end they both didnt wanna give up and i think thats the way it should be. They both finished so no harm done, except to buttons ego.

Button would say Perez was too aggressive . If Button had not overly slow down exiting the apex, Perez would not have touched him. Far worse and typical of the Button attitude to sportsmanship was his deliberate rule breaking, shoving of Perez off the track .

If Button had broken the rules he would have been penalised, there's NO question of that. Perhaps he was showing Perez that he can be agressive too. What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. As for Button not being a fair sportsman, you must be in one of the smallest minorities there is amongst F1 fans! When Did Button ever get called to the stewards for dirty behaviour and get punished for it?

This is undoubtedly being overblown. His comments were amazingly calm in my opinion and he has remained 'cool' about it after the race.

It must be a valid comment to say your teamate was too aggressive, when he has shunted you and could easily have taken you both out. If it had given JB a puncture and taken Checo's wing off, at best he would have been extremely embarassed. He was lucky that didn't happen.

Frankly, can you imagine the tirade on the radio if say Massa had done that to Alonso or Grojean to Kimi, or the other way around!

JB was not asking for team orders, he was simply saying err... surely this is going too far? which is an amazingly mature response when you have nearly been taken out twice.

As for JB running him off track, that is totally wrong. It was the nature of the corner that pursuers were putting themselves in a position where they knew they might have to run out. The move would not have been attempted if there was a wall there!
