"can he win when the car (ISN'T) the best?"

I've seen a lot of drivers, including Vettel, win individual races when the car isn't the best. Win the WDC when the car isn't the best? That's a whole different matter and it's very rarely if ever done.

Lewis Hamilton is one of my favorite drivers but I don't even think he can win one this year. 4 years now and Merc has the same problem and they haven't fixed that yet. At some point they have to put all their eggs in the 2014 car and this car will be quickly forgotten. We'll see by Barcelona if they are going to go forwards or backwards.

@MikeD

It's not the driver, it's the car. Even the great Schuey couldn't do anything with a car that eats its tires. Schuey was fast (Monaco pole), Rosberg is fast (Bahrain pole), Lewis is fast (China pole). Heck, even the car is fast. at least for a lap. However, it doesn't matter how fast the car and the driver go, if it eats tires the way the Merc does, it is doomed. Especially with this year's tires.

@all the Hamilton fanboys

No, the article doesn't mention Hamilton going for the WDC, that was all you lot at the start of the season when the Mercedes looked fast.

Not so cocky now are you?

Like ive said before he has achieved more in 4 races for Mercedes than Schumacher did in 3 years.

The wins will come soon wait untill Monaco and Canada.

Found the answer to drivers who'd won the WDC when their team hadn't won the constructors :
Not many drivers have done this....but Rosberg and Hamilton have...before you ask that s Kiki Rosberg

I feel bad for Nico Rosberg, everyone seems to have forgotten he had won a race at this point last year.

Hamilton should be confident of victory for Mercedes, whether he'll be the one on the top step is something we just have to wait and see.
