F1 » McLaren manages to salvage points from Barcelona

With pretty much everything going wrong for McLaren in the lead up to the Spanish Grand, getting both cars home in the points was something of a minor miracle.

So much for letting their drivers race, a two faced team much like red bull, they say one thing and very next race they do the opposite and impose team orders when 1 car is 1 second faster than the other and on fresh rubber too. Perez will have his revenge for this.

I've said it before, and I'm still convinced that Whitmarsh running McLaren is just not a very good idea. I really think that someone like Uncle Ron would have squeezed at least one Manufacturer's Championship from the last few years and they wouldn't be in the situation they are now. I know there's not much to back me up, but I stll believe this.

So what happened to McLaren allowing their drivers to race one another. What a load of crock. Perez should have been allowed to pass Button. He was much quicker and had some chance of bridging the gap.

Whitmarsh seems over the moon that they got some points, I'm not sure Ron Dennis shares his view and even Button said it was embarrassing. They bought a lot of upgrades to Spain which appeared to make no difference so it starts to beg the question "do they actually know what is wrong or are they just shooting in the dark"? Either way their season is effectivly over and their claim that they will win races looks beyond them at the moment. I think Whitmarsh will go but I don't see it happing mid season as it would only lower the already low morale in the team. Button also seems out of his depth in this situation, we might have expected his experience to have counted in this situation but clearly it has'nt, the car seems stuck where it started and all the talk about going through the readouts and correlating data has'nt produced any improvement at all. I find it difficult to understand how a team with so much money and experience can come up with something so bad. We must assume that th

@oldtimer - why do you think Button is out of his depth? Did Shumacher drag Mercedes to the front in his years with the team? No! Because they never gave him a consistently competitive car. Are Rosberg and Hamilton out of their depth because they have no answer to their cars high tyre deg situation? Of course not. It's an inherent problem which you simply cannot drive around.

McLaren have been stupid in moving away from the car which won the last two races of 2012. Who's to blame? Whitmarsh must take the rap but he's not the designer. Who was that? Paddy Lowe, now on gardening leave after accepting a lucrative offer from Mercedes for 2013. I'm sure Toto Wolff is thrilled by Paddys imminent arrival!
